So I get this letter, from the National Honor Roll...

tedginn05

Legend
Says I've been selected for induction into the 2006/2007 National Honor Roll. Also says I'm one of only 25 students in the country to recieve this.

Heres the funny thing. My freshman year I was on the honor roll 3 quarters of the year. Last year I was only on honor roll once, granted I did have a 3.83.

I'm really trying to figure out why......why I would get this, I guess why would I receive this "honor"?

Seriously, does anyone think this thing is legit?

I read the small print and apparently I'm up for one of 25 spots.

It says that I was was selected by a rep. from my HS for my "excellent academic achievements".:tongue2:

FYI, last year I was selected as "All-Around Student" of my school. I wonder if this is somehow connected.

EDIT: BTW, don't worry, I'm not really taking this too seriously.

Read it again Teddy. I am sure it doesn't say only 25 in the whole country are selected. Maybe it is upper 25%??

At the college level there is something quite similar. Since I have been included in the Who's Who of American Teachers each edition since 1994, I can nominate students to be included on the National Dean's List. Students that I nominate must meet certain criteria such as a minimum of a 3.5
(I think ) GPA. Now only students who are the National Dean's List can nominate a professor to be included in Who's Who. Now it costs nothing to be included in these publications and it costs nothing to nominate students/professors, there is always the opportunity to buy the book that includes everyone in Who's Who (or on the National Dean's list), medals, coffee mugs, plaques, etc., etc. I know that for Who's Who, they state that 5% of teachers/professors are included and 2% are included more than once. I don't know the percentages for the National Dean's List. Yes, it is an honor. Yes, I encourage the students that I nominate to apply for the National Dean's List when they get the info (could win scholarship money) and it looks good on a resume or grad school application. I also encourage them to not buy anything!

So Teddy, I assume that it is legit. Fill out the paperwork. Then expect to be asked at a later time to "purchase the book that your name will be in, or a coffee mug, or a plaque, to commemorate your acomplishment". I would say, save your cash. Getting on the National Honor Roll costs nothing and it may look nice on an application to a college since, at a minimum, someone (presumably a teacher) had to nominate you for this.

It says I've been nominated for one of 25 spots. So yes, it does say 25 spots.

If you notice my last post, I said I read the small print. And it says I'm up for one of 25 spots. So yes I know there is more than 25 people in the country to recieve this.

And yes, they have offered me the "opportunity" to buy a book with my name on it.

I'm trying to figure out how you're one of only 25 students to get that exact letter.

I think there must be exactly 24 other high school students with the same name as you.

Hell when I was in high school, I had a 2.0 gpa, and was sent letters from Whos who among high school student things. Then I thought about it and after I saw that for me to be put in this "book" and get a "certificate" I had to pay 49.95.

Its just a scam for cash, but if its all legit, congrats.

Dude, they're trying to sell you some facacta Yearbook with like 10,000 people's picture in it.

Kind of like a Who's Who book.

What an idiot you are.

My grandpa is probably rolling in his grave knowing that people like you fill his old high school.

Ouch...

Clarity was just discussing starting a "Who's Who of BuckeyePlanet" society. Send us $49.99 (usually $77) and we will send out a mass e-mail stating that you are in fact known as an important member of BuckeyePlanet.

Everyone in school get these letters, in the end they will want $25 to put you in THEIR magazine, $75 to buy the book they put you in and then $50 to go to a banquet where you realize you are then only who showed up and it isnt even close to the McDonalds parking lot.

Seriously though, when I was a senior... I got kind of the same letter (I had a 2.9, granted I was in Calc, Phys, and Buisness Drafting) for academics ( called Whos who in America ) and I turned it down. Then later I got one for football (hadnt played in school since I was a Soph) then I got one for Wrestling before Wrestling even started!!!!

See a pattern here?
