You kids stay off my lawn!
What a summer.
The semester ends in early May, I turn in my grades and scoot up to Wright - Pat and catch a hop to Germany. Along the way I get soaked in a Jersey rain storm and plopped down under an air outlet and wake up in Deutschland zehr kranken mit der kopfstuffen and der nossen runnen. I lose the first four days to a sinus infection.
Late july and we're having the roof re-done and the contractor, running late and with a short crew, gets caught with our roof wide open and a rain and hail storm...
so now we're having all the ceilings and half the walls redone, living in an apartment and trying to total up all that we lost for the insurance company.
At last, this week, we prepare to leave all of our summer angst behind and head off to Holden Beach, a little mostly unheard of island in North Carolina for a little R&R.
Everything is going wonderful. We're eating fresh caught shrimp, flounder, grouper and red snapper from the store on the wharf, fresh silver queen corn and tomatoes from the truck farm just three miles out, in a lovely home on a canal and son of a beach if I don't go out last night for a bit of a swim and step on a stingray.
Little bastards pack quite a wallop and thanks to my being on aspirin-a-day therapy I bleed easily. I looked like something from a Roman Polanski movie. EMS, ambulance ride and a half inch gash on the side of my foot and no more swimming for me for a few weeks.
I'm ready for this summer to end, get back to work and back to football.
