I suppose you don't see the absolute silliness in a comment like that? Let's see, God talks to the USC quarterback and in one of those discussions, Barkley learned it was his destiny? Or does he just kind of feel his way through the delusion.

I guess the only thing left is to ask the question, can he talk to Elvis too?
hey! now just a goldarned minute. If God can talk to me then he can talk to Barkley too.
"what's that God?"
Oh ok. Hey Steve , you're screwed.

Yeah, I don't know many USC fans, or especially anybody who has met the kid, who would say Barkley is arrogant. He is very confident in himself and believes that he is exactly where he belongs. But he's not the kind of guy to get really into trashing teams or other players.

He's just calm like he's doing what he was born to do and that it comes naturally to him.

At what point did anybody suggest (or even Barkley) that he talked directly to God as in a discussion?

This isn't a recent thing. He believed this in high school, and before that as well.

But considering the Elvis/delusion comment, I'm going to suspect that you don't really have a strong religious view. Truthfully I don't either. But I think hammering him (and others) for religious views is pretty low.

Barkley is very religious and actually believes its his destiny to play quarterback. Its not arrogant its just confidence.

Yes because the Holy Tim Tebow God himself is so obsessed with football that he hand created Matt Barkley to play QB. Give me a break...

Look, Barkley has the tools around him to make himself a good QB, but to put down your opponent and say things after the game is trash talking and arrogance. He lives in a world where everyone hypes him to be the next Palmer or Sanchez. He needs to learn humility and learn that when he does a post game press conference, talkabout how the other team put up a fight, talk about how you need to improve. Don't say that it was a cake walk, thats just being cocky.

He is religious, I don't get religious people at all, but its clear that Barkley is not arrogant.

That he claims this destiny is arrogant, by definition.

Look, I don't blame Barkley for being arrogant.

When your coach leaves you in and allows you to throw TD strikes in the third quarter while your team is up 35-3, all in the sake of pumping up your stats - your head is going to get a bit bigger. Same can be said for McKnight running in the third quarter with the game well in hand.

Im glad Barkley and the starters are used to being in all game long - they will need the conditioning of a full 60 Saturday.

In this day and age wish Tress would do that.

IMO, it was a poor choice of words that Barkley used to describe his first game as a QB. The words do exude confidence and I can see where some can see arrogance.

I will accept the USC visitors that vouch that the young man is not arrogant and that it simply shows confidence.

It also shows youth/immaturity. If he had said that it was easy because of the great job his coaches did in preparing him, the great job the oline did in giving him time, etc.,....basically sharing the praise with his teammates (which actually should be a given in football...the epitome of a team sport), I doubt anyone would have any issues of any hint of arrogance in his comments. But he didn't. He is young. Despite the youth, it is somewhat surprising from a religious person though.

I am deeply religious. I am not hammering Barkley for religious views. For goodness sakes, Barkley is a kid.

I am pointing out the arrogance in comments attributed to him by USCStephen, who links Barkley's alleged religiosity to his belief that playing QB is his destiny. What else are we supposed to think?

This is a game thread. Let's talk about the game without all this silliness about the player's personal lives and alleged opinions.

If any of you have a comment on this post, please take it to PMs and let's get back to a game discussion.

Lol, people can conjure a negative intention out of just about anything.
