Split: Will NIL give schools an advantage over OSU?

Yeah, that's what I thought you were saying. Congrats on agreeing with about 70-90% of the internet about what will happen with NIL. Most agree that it will (or already has) happen(ed), it's merely a matter of whether that's ok.

There were scores in that thread saying it will happen, so congrats on joining them two months
There were some saying it would be stupid for Nike to only do this for one school for a recruit.

But the real kicker is quoting 27's obvious sarcasm. Maybe he needed to include Zion in the sentence?

Is there a reason you didn't quote 27's direct response to you?
So what? He can't make more somewhere else. Ohio State football isn't going to be out spent. And they can 100% offer more in the way of long term success. Oregon feels like the latest boogey man that we're supposed to get all riled up over. If he picks them, it's not going to be because of Nike and NIL.
Where he says OSU will out spend him in a NIL arms race. Which is absolutely true.

If Nike wants to try, they can't hang with the depth and breadth of OSU's network. It's not just how OSU's network of boosters, alumni and sponsorships dwarfs Oregon's, it's how much more compelling it is for the advertisers.

Nike might try to buy a few kids, but they won't have a fleet of buckeye players getting perks, because all of those ancillary sponsorships just aren't a very wise choice for players in a mostly irrelevant conference on the left coast. There's some value there but it's nothing like what you find in Ohio.

Did he need to type Zion to make the sarcasm that obvious?
Go back and read the JT thread starting around page 30. There were posters 100% saying Knight was not going to get involved with the new NIL and recruiting to tip the scales in Oregon's direction.

No, 1 post says that (NorthCoastKid).

The first two said it would be stupid for Nike to do that for one school for a recruit.

27 answered you directly, and said OSU won't be outspent when threatened with NIL perks, yet you skipped that and went to a post where he blatantly mocked Nike's corruption for steering recruits to schools, but promised it wouldn't happen in a sport with an oblong ball.

Also, there's the rather large matter of this not being done for a recruit. This was done for a kid who has about 4 months left in college. I have no doubt that Oregon might point this out.

But Nike isn't stupid. If Quinn Ewers wants to sign up now for less than his 2023 likeness would be worth, they'll go make him some NFT's as well.

Just like if Memphis and Jalen Duren want the same.

Hstead - will Nike ruin this for us with buying kids for Oregon? If not, he'll be a buckeye
DaBuckeyes - Not sure they can buy kids directly yet, but if they did they aren't going to do it for one school only.
Mistah - worrying about Nike is silly, OSU can match anything Oregon can try on that front
jake - they're not going to alienate all partnerships by doing this for one school only.
pnuts - worrying about Nike is silly, even if they did that, OSU could just run to Adidas and possibly do even better.
Hstead - Phil Knight will do whatever it takes to buy recruits, and they're promising recruits what they can do with the rule changes coming
27 - So what, he can't make more money somewhere else."
- bukipower - 27 is right.
Oh8ch - can only compensate at market value, so technically a booster shouldn't just be able to pay a kid. Either way, Oregon < Buckeye market value
- Powairs - market value is what someone will pay, so there's no ceiling.
---- Oh8ch - yep, here's more on that
Northcoastkid - Phil Knight is not likely to pay for some mostly unknown recruit
- OH10 - yes he would, it's just more legal disguised as NIL
--- LJB - here's how they'd do that
27 - this is silly, Nike never steers kids to schools.

And your takeaway from that exchange is that you showed a bunch of those fools? Ok.

The entire conversation on the JT thread was if Nike and Knight were going to get involved with recruits, ie JT, giving Oregon a nice position in the future with this NIL stuff. Several posters were disagreeing, not "one", stating how ignorant Nike would be to alienate other schools. Just because they made an image for a Senior does not mean it is not going to be used for recruiting. That is the entire point, if Nike and Knight are going to help Oregon players get paid, Oregon is going to use it to recruit. I would expect the player to be on the roster benefiting from Nike and Knight for Oregon to be able to make the point to recruits.

Is it worth mentioning that JTT didn't choose Oregon?

My takeaway is not I "showed all those fools". Please quote me where I said that. I think you are evidently reading into my post something that was not typed. Feel free to quote me.

My post said "I was told by multiple posters on this site that Knight and Nike would no way do anything to assist Oregon in NIL or recruiting, no way no how. DUH!"

That is what posters posted, that Nike would not get involved nor would Knight. They were responding to multiple other posters here.

Nike and Knight are going to help Oregon players get paid: Absolutely true
Oregon is going to use it to recruit: Absolutely true

The question is not whether these things are true. The question is not whether these things will give Oregon an advantage over Oregon State. The question is, will Oregon have an advantage over Ohio State in the NIL era?

While that question is certainly debatable, I'm not sure how interesting it is. If they will have an advantage over Ohio State, they don't have a noticeable advantage yet, and whatever advantage they eventually might have isn't likely to be a big enough advantage to lose sleep over.

Exactly. But read the old thread, that wasn't everyone esle's position as obvious as it is.

There were 15 posts made on the subject between your question and 27's sarcasm about Nike's tendency to pay recruits.

1 of them said Oregon/Phil wouldn't pay a recruit.

Actually my math was off, there were 2 other posts having fun with it (and definitely not disputing NIL & Oregon), and another person playing off of 27's Nike corruption joke.
