I'm partial to two blow-ups.

1) Tim Belcher's meltdown after losing to the Yankees and calling every
cameraman a mother effer ion the hallway on the way back to the locker room.

2) Hal McRae in his office throwing his phone against the wall and going off.

My wife tagging me in the chest with a portable phone from across the living room when I came home at 7:00 am last Saturday morning after drinking all night with the rugby team (that's the sports connection).

Herm Edwards gives 5x more quality sound bytes than Jim Mora. Jim Mora has more of a whiney bitch voice so he sounds better. This year, telling reporters that they don't know what it's like to be a player... talking about Chad Pennington... "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!"... it's all too good.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - A South African referee shot and killed a
player during a soccer match when the player, angry over a disputed
goal, lunged at him with a knife. Isaac Mkhwetha, 20, captain of the
local Wallabies soccer team, was fatally wounded on the field in front
of 600 spectators. Referee Lebogang Petrus Mokgethi, 34, has pleaded
not guilty to the killing. The shooting occurred after the Try Agains,
another local team, scored against the Wallabies. Some Wallabies fans
ran onto the field to protest the goal, which had cut the Wallabies'
lead to 2-1. During the commotion, the referee retrieved his licensed
9 mm pistol. Mkhwetha left the field, got a knife and lunged at the
referee, who shot Mkhwetha in the chest. ``It is easy for players and
referees to get hurt during games in this area,'' said Wallabies Manager
Issac Mahlapsi. He attributed violence that occurs during many games,
especially among heavy-drinking spectators.

Nothing can compare with the soccer fanatics in other countries. Sure, Ron Artest punched somebody, could you imagine if he had killed somebody instead? Some soccer fans are just crazy.

Yep at the 94 World Cup, his name was Andres Escobar, or something close to that. He allowed an own goal against the US in the prelims and Colombia, who was a pretty decent favorite that year, failed to get into the elimination rounds. Promptly after arriving back to Colombia, he was killed outside of a bar after being ridiculed for it. I believe that's how it all went down.

EDIT: it was the 94 World Cup, not 98

here is a link to a story

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/world/2002/world_cup/hof/escobar/

"In Medellin 10 days later, Escobar was shot 12 times by a gunman as he left a nightclub. With each bullet his assailant was reported by police to have shouted: "Goal." - Crazy shit there.
