Wow the left side of our o-line is massive...

Does anyone else think that that might not be the best thing? Troy is listed at 6-1, but is probably just a little over 6-0, and on his left side, he has two 6-8 guys. I don't know, it just seems like he might be blinded a little bit. I'm also a little worried about Rehring's mobility for the LG spot. However, there's no denying that there are some road graders on that left side in Datish, Rehring, and Boone.

I think it helps in running blocking because the running back can hide behind a pair of 6'8" guys. Pass blocking might be a little concern because of their height, but Smith rolls out and moves around the pocket anyway so im sure he will be fine.

I wonder if the projected OL positions are correct. It seems to me that if it came down to it, we would probably not put in the 2nd string tackles they have listed. I would have to think we would bump people around.

I know it's only the spring depth chart and things WILL be changing, but I wasn't prepared for all the changes.

Offense:
-Where's Roy Hall??
-Rehring moving to G, Datish moving to C. I love Rehring, but having walk-ons in the 2 deep at BOTH tackles scares the hell outta me if it stays like this during the regular season. Plus, I'd really like to see one of our redshirt sophs finally step up (Person, Skinner, Mitchum, I'm talking to you three!). Kinda surprised to see Cordle not 1st team, but I'm sure he'll make a loud argument here this spring.
-Pittman at kick returner. Surprise, surprise! I had been thinking this was screaming Erik Haw or maybe JamO. Interested to see how Pitty does fielding them, because I know he has no problem finding a hole to run through
-Boeckman 3rd team, Shoenhoft 4th team. I figured Boeckman would be 3rd team QB, but I thought Robbie's scout team awards might warrent the upgrade. Should be an interesting battle next spring between those 2 + Henton...
-Hartline 2nd team WR, Dukes 3rd team. Robiskie didn't surprise me, but Hartline over Dukes did. Hartline shows a ton of promise, and I'm excited to watch him here this spring

Defense:
-Larry Grant at 3rd team Sam. I heard a lotta arguments about LG possibly starting over "Animal Jr", but it makes sense that he'll have to earn the spot over guys that have already established themselves here. Should be an interesting battle! That said though, my money's on Laurinitis keeping his spot.
-Spitler moving to OLB from MLB. I was hoping he'd move from MLB, because we are STACKED there right now, especially with Johnson coming in this year.
-Patterson starting over Mitchell. Talk was that Russell was the one challanging Mitchell for a starting spot over the winter, but I guess we had it wrong. I really like the way Patterson hits, but I thought Mitchell had paid his dues to be the starter. I hope he uses this as motivation to get that starting spot this fall.
-Depth at CB (in particular, Amos at 3rd team). To me, this was the biggest surprise. If Amos is 3rd team, Washington must have done something amazing over the winter/bowl game preperation. I thought that Amos would be battling for a starting spot this spring. I'm applauding Antonio Smith and really feeling for Shaun Lane. Didn't know Smith had the hips to switch over from safety, let alone be 1st team during the spring!
-Homan and Coleman playing spring ball. Those two won't be in those same positions on the fall depth chart, I guarantee you.

This is the one that IMMEDIATELY jumped out at me. I'd be really suprised to see him back there come September. I'm not a big fan of putting a workhorse back, who's already gonna take a beating grinding out yards, at KR. I hope/expect somebody else emerges...Haw, MoW most likely. We've heard so much about Haw's abilities, I'd love to see him earn some time on the field to show them. MoW's jitterbug style seems like it would be a good fit here as well.

We've had starting running backs do kickoffs before- back in the days of old Lydell/MoHall, where Hall was returning kicks... sure, he was returning kicks before he got his big break at RB, and was the Big Ten leader (which is why Teddy didn't replace him...)

The spring chard looks like it will go through many iterations (currently, Beanie is the #4 RB... right), but I wouldn't be suprised to see Pittman returning kicks with Teddy and Gonzo in that triangle formation that they used last year- and that, my friends, would be scary...

It seems that anyone new to the program is buried in the depth chart at this time. For instance, does anyone really think that CWells will be the 4th RB when we line up against NIU? Therefore, I doubt that Larry Grant will stay 3rd at the Sam.

That said, the two biggest surprises for me are at the Mike and TE. I thought that MDA would be starting at the Mike, but possibly it's due to the fact that his participation is still limited due to injury. Nevertheless, I would've thought that Hoobler would be slotted ahead of Kerr. At TE, I am very, very surprised. I thought Frost did an outstanding job at the end of last year at that position, and I thought the position would be his this year.
