Stan Drayton (Head Coach, Temple Owls)

This will have a long impact and overshadow all OSU recruiting for years to come

Are you being sarcastic or what, not sure... Because if you are, well played! If not then you're going way overboard. We probably won't remember this by spring practice. Just like no one remembered some fans not wanting LJsr for what some deemed suspect recruiting practices when he was with PSU. This will blow over in time. I mean its not like this wasn't just won:

Let's chill out. We'll hire a great RB, in Urban I trust

I mean, I don't agree with the position coach bailing a day after Signing Day, but that's a little extreme. This was not the first, not the last, time for this to happen.

The kid still gets to play for the school he committed to, which happens to be the national champions, and gets an education. OSU didn't railroad the kid(s).

My guess is no one remembers this a year from today, because there will be a new round of coaches leaving from various schools next year.

Whether a position coach stays or leaves doesn't really matter. Playing for Urban Meyer matters.

Looks like the outside forces that were working on MW are still in play. Kid needs to grow up fast.

Says who? That's a ridiculous oversimplification of a complex relationship. It sure helps, but Urban doesn't spend the time with the players that their direct coach does. The player actually commits to the school. Coaches can change and schemes can change without approval of players.

Yea, 17-18 year old who just made the biggest decision of his life to date, grow up! Shit happens.

I'm not arguing that this is the worst thing a football team has ever done, just that there are better ways to do it. Even if Drayton interviewed and accepted the job on the same day, there's certain things you do to maintain relationships. Maybe Drayton has already done that. If so, good for him.

Either way, these things too shall pass.

My last post on this unless directly addressed, but seems Drayton has talked to Weber, which is good on Drayton.

@toddporter: Urban Meyer spoke at Ohio coaches clinic this morning and said he and Drayton have talked to Mike Weber, according to @SteveHelwagen.

A series of posts from the Urban Meyer thread in February 2009.....just so anyone who weighed in then can make sure they are saying the same thing now.

I didn't quote any posts from @Gatorubet because I thought that might break the Internet.

What do ya know, I'm consistent! :banger: But really this is all contingent on the true timing of the interview, what Drayton/the staff knew, and what Weber was told. There is no doubt we knew the interview would take place but if the job was not a guarantee at the time, then I think it is completely fine. Now if the interview was a mere formality for a job we knew he already had and there was some type of assurance to Weber that Drayton would be there this year, I'm seriously not ok with that. I doubt we will really ever know for sure but I'm not going to say our hands are clean if an 18 year old kid took a visit while an entire group of grown adults flat out lied to a kid...I sincerely hope that if that is the case, no poster would be ok with that.

But seeing as how I don't/will not likely know what happened, I can only wish Coach Drayton the best of luck. He was a great coach here that yielded tremendous results. And if Weber plays to his billing, who knows...Drayton may coach him after all in 3-4 years.

What names stick out right now to Replace Drayton?
Finally something worth discussing...

Tony Alford is a name I keep hearing.
Al Washington is another interesting name.
Several people have mentioned Vince Marrow, although I'm not sure how I feel about that name yet. Couple of reasons why I know I don't love the idea but it is still an intriguing name. I know one thing...I think he would come running from Lexington if Urban called.
Could it be someone who can coach the TEs and Hinton goes back to RBs? Possibly but I seriously doubt it.

First person to suggest Eddie George, Beanie Wells, Archie Griffin, Lydell Ross, Maurice Hall, Michael Wiley, Hopalong Cassidy, Maurice Clarrett, Joe Montgomery, Robert Smith or Mo Wells gets a stern look. If you're going to suggest a former player as least pick one with previous coaching experience like Pepe Pearson (and no, I'm not seriously suggesting he is a candidate).

Any sort of background you could provide on those... I'm not familiar with those names.. I know Marrow just from recruiting.

I'd take Deland McCullough in a heartbeat.
