Star Wars: The Old Republic

BootCamp is explained pretty clearly by Apple in this pdf:
Concept:
Boot Camp enables you to install Windows on your Intel-based Mac computer, using a
Microsoft Windows install disc that you provide. Windows is installed on its own
partition. After installation, you can use either Windows or Mac OS X on your Mac
computer.
The Boot Camp Assistant application helps you create the Windows partition and
restart your Mac using your Windows installation disc. Then you can follow these
instructions to install Windows and install software drivers that enable Windows to
work with your Mac hardware.

System Requirements:
Here’s what you need to install and set up Windows on your Mac:
? An Intel-based Mac computer, with:
? a USB keyboard and mouse, or a built-in keyboard and trackpad
? Mac OS X version 10.5 or later (the latest version of Mac OS X is strongly
recommended)
? a built-in optical disc drive, or, if your computer doesn’t have a built-in optical
drive, a compatible external optical drive
For information on using your computer with an external optical drive, see the
documentation that came with your computer.
? all firmware updates for your computer
For information about updating your computer’s system software and firmware, see
page 21.
? A Mac OS X Leopard installation disc, which can be either of the following:
? a Mac OS X Leopard disc (included with all purchased copies of Leopard)
? a Mac OS X Install Disc 1 (included with all Macs that have Leopard preinstalled)
? At least 10 GB of free space on the disk you’re installing on
? Boot Camp Assistant (located in /Applications/Utilities/)
? Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later, or Windows
Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate
Important: You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc (Service Pack 2 is
required for Windows XP installations). Do not use an upgrade version of Windows and
do not install an earlier version of Windows XP and attempt to update it later to SP2 or
later. Use only 32-bit versions of Windows. If you have a Mac Pro or a MacBook Pro
introduced in early 2008 or later, you can use a 64-bit version of Windows Vista.

Basically, because Mac now uses Intel iron you can have a dual license OS system.

well, I ended up buying it. Got to play some earlier. Bounty Hunter on the Fatman server (Bill Lucas, the name is McGarnagle). Anyway, just tried to sign in. Got put in the que. I am #764 in the que. No joke. 764. I guess I didn't realize that is the most poplar server. I joined because of some other people mentioned joining it. I am thinking that was a mistake. I will have to create a character on another server.

BTW....best part so far

SPOILER ALERT

I was sent on a mission to kill a guy working for a rival Hutt boss. I had the option to let him go, but my character is an evil bastard. So I shot him in cold blood, cut off his head (they don't actually show the beheading or the actual head later on, it's just a bag), and then gave the head to his wife. She freaks out and goes running off while screaming hysterically. That is some quality gameplay right there.

On another note, one thing that does get annoying is the background noise continues during dialog. So if there is a gunfight nearby (which is all the time) it's hard to follow the dialog. I have to read the subtitles instead. I haven't checked to see if it can be turned off. It not, they really need to tone down the noise. The explosions are loud as hell.

To anyone who might be able to help. And i realize that many,if not all of you, are on a different server. But... I need a few people for group missions. I am a Jedi councilor and have progressed to a "Shadow". A healer or tank would be great. My server name is Shien or something closely spelled that way. It's the only one even close to that spelling and one of the few shorter named servers.

I'll look you up on Fatman. It seems to be the most heavily populated server by a good margin. I'm enjoying the game.

If you see me around, feel free to give a yell.

I must admit, this is the first time I have played a MMO for any real length. It can be fun, but holy number of buttons Batman! I have about 25 different powers that I use on a regular basis, and about 5 more that are used in non combat situations (those I can scroll to when I need them). I am going to have to do some serious work on my key bindings. I did some initial bindings, and that worked when I had about 15 powers. Yet they just keep on coming. The worst thing is they are all useful.

I have a mouse with 4 side buttons, and I can also map the left and right scroll wheel (I actually map those is BF3 for main weapon and pistol, very handy). That should help some. In the mean time I am still clicking on the pictures of the powers for some of them, and it's not really efficient. I want to try some PVP stuff, but I know I will get destroyed until I can get all my powers to be within a button click instead of having to mouse over and picture and click.

You might already know but you can add a secondary row of powers to your 1==>0 powers that automatically appear by your characters face. I didn't know until I watched a youtube vid about basic custom setups.

yep, use it, and I have another row on the left hand side of the screen (you can have 2 rows on the bottom, 1 on the left, and 1 on the right of the screen). It's more about using them quickly with a key stroke or mouse button. Mousing over them and clicking is too slow. Right now I have 15 set up with mouse or keys (not including the other keys I have set up for targeting), and it doesn't work too bad. The rest are normally out of combat powers or rarely used.

On another note, I regret being on a PVP server. It's pretty stupid. I have run into Republic players 2 times (well, 4 total, but only 2 that caused a battle). Just stupid hit and run tactics, and it's really just an annoyance. 1 time a guy was hiding behind some rocks and waited for me to finish fighting some NPC enemies and killed me while my health was low. Another time 2 guys rushed in, teamed up on me, killed me, and then the NPC players killed them. It's pretty pointless. I was hoping for some sort of fair battles, and maybe areas where you might run into each other. Instead it's just random ganking that serves no purpose at all other than being annoying. When I run into Republic players, they are there for one reason, to attack Imperial players. They are not there questing that ends up as a random encounter and a battle that ensues. Instead of PVP server they should call it Trolling server. That is really all it is. I would really like to see some overlap areas where completing quests requires a side to take control of the area.

Really enjoying the game. Only problem I'm having is my character is very choppy in some areas such as the tombs. When I'm out in the open areas I have no problems at all. Maybe I need a newer video card. My PC runs WOW just fine though. I am a sith inquisitor on anchorhead if anyone is interested in joining a guild. My character name is Norom(moron backwards).

What are you comp specs? If you're going to upgrade there are a lot of cheap deals out there atm.

I have found my "real" first bug. And it sucks because it has totally halted by character's personal story development. I am on the planet Taris and I am tracking down a rouge Jedi. During my time on Taris and working through various quest I am called and asked to help a certain captain servive a Rakghoul invasion and he holds "new" important information that will lead me to this Jedi. Well, when I arrive and try to help the captain I am prompted to "speak" with him after killing a few Rakghoul. But he just continues to sit behind an unpassable bunker looking hurt or something. Needless to say I have tried everything I can think of to get to him. i have filed a ticket with customer support but I also noticed that other characters were seeing similar issues. Sucks because I am now a 22 and don't want to wait that long to progress my story line.

Ok, got some questions for those who are playing this game. I love a lot of the old Star Wars games, especially KOTOR. I've never gotten into all the WoW or MMOGs or anything like it. So is the game all online based, or are there solo missions? Any complaints about this game?

Currently playing Skyrim on my computer, so I'm not sure when I'll want to put that game down, but wanted to ask some people who are currently playing it and see what there thoughts were.

Yes, this game is basically ALL online based. I thought the same thing at first. That being if I am just interested in my storyline then would I even need to be online and have a subscription to online game play. Well, you do and its part of your basic start up process. As in you start the game up, fill out a plan for subsrciption, then chose your light/dark side, character basics, etc.

But, this is my first online MMO/RPG. Fun but I have had a few glitches that I would expect to be worked out by now. See two posts above for more detail on those. You would enjoy it though if you enjoyed SWKOTOR. The only dislike I have compared to KOTOR is that you are placed within the limitation of your class. In other words due to my light side class I will not be able to have lighting ability. Which I love from KOTOR.

One thing you have to be careful about is letting missions pile up in your log. It starts happening about that point. If you hit the limit, it will not let you take on any more missions. I found this out the hard way. I didn't finish all the heroic missions. Add in group and space missions, and I had a ton. So had to go through a bunch and abandon them. It took looking up my issue on the internet to figure it out. They really need an alert that the mission log is full. Instead it just keeps you from taking new missions.

Well, it looks like there is a PVP planet that is sort of like I wanted. It's an end game planet. The areas are controlled through PVP combat on Ilium, which requires something like 40+ level and I am sure full of level 50 players.

On a side note, crafting appears to be fairly useless. The best weapons/gear are from group raids and PVP combat. I did armstech, and I am able to craft some stuff for myself that is much better than anything in the player storyline. Yet for truly top of the line stuff, especially at level 50, you can't really craft them. Sort of makes the whole crafting game worthless for most of the game.
