I've found success with slants, drags and other over the middle routes. Can't just go bombs away anymore... In fact, I had Holmes on a fly - had at least 7 yards on his guy and the pass was thrown well enough so as to lead Holmes... the DB closed and knocked it away, which was crap... in real life, that's six.

All I do is pass.

The other day Smith was 35-42 for 463 yds and 4 tds against Michigan on Heisman. He also had 125 yds rushing.
Please tell me this is on the PS2 version.

I've been playing Madden lately and I do much better on that game (Xbox version.) Now, when I play NCAA, my passing skills have deteriorated. I don't know how you guys are hitting the slant routes with regular success (at least if it's on the Xbox version.)

Those passing stats are sick. I'm actually using Florida right now as I have moved from Army year 1 to UAB year 2 to FLorida year 3. I have chris leak as a senior and he is a 99 QB. I throw for about 280 per game but my completion percentage is terrible. probably around 35-40%.

I have found that I can throw the crossing plays with some consistency, generally short to medium routes. I just started to gry the slant routes, but too often they seem to get deflected by the LB'ers.

The hitch or come back routes used to be an automatic 8 yards or so. Not anymore. If the corners are playing zone - forget it. They sit down right in front of your receiver and deflect everything. If they are in man - you have a chance but I usually gun it in and I hear corso saying....whoa....you need to take some heat of that pass so he can catch it and then hear herbie say..nah that is the wr's fault...he needs to make that play. funny.

I have only hit one screen for more than 10 yards in 3 seasons. Usually as soon as my rb catches the ball - he gets blasted.

I can still hit some out routes but often (even w/ a 99 qb) it is too far wide. I do try to "lead" my receivers most times when I throw. maybe i should just push the button and not use the stick as much...hmmmmm.

Anything deep and over the middle needs to have some zip on it or there is no, NO chance of completing it. But then, it is usually batted down.... sigh.

I have hit the deep corner routes - but it takes some precision. Needs to be fast enough to get there before the safety(zone coverage), but high enough to get over the corner.

I am about 5 years in on my dynasty and consistently put up 300-350 yards a game on Heisman. I always try to end up with 200-225 rushing yards as a team as well. While the easiest way to gain big yards on the ground is to run the option and counters wide, it helps to mix in a dive or a draw every once in a while. having a decent o-line makes this possible and helps set up the play action pass, which is deadly in my book. Also, recruiting receivers that are 6'3 and up is key. I like to throw underneath to the TEs and RBs a lot and then take a few shots down field. Things start to open up the more comfortable you get...

Are you on PS2? If so I need to play you some time.... all I can do is defend the pass. :wink2: I do wind up blitzing (zone-blitz) about 80% of the time which seems unrealistic, but I've figured out how to stop the one-dimensional teams.... it's the 5 yard runs that are killing me.

My buddy was telling me that he is passing like crazy on the Heisman level, also though he says that it is impossible to run the ball consistantly. I am still having trouble passing the ball but there are a couple of plays that are of great quality.

I don't pass much, just the occasional play action or the end of half bomb, but I complete most of them because I catch them by surprise.

My triple option game frustrates the hell out of people. I chew up the clock, and wear out their defense, 4 yards at a time. Ball control, baby!
