If you do end up on the Ohio side, make sure you visit the new residence at all hours prior to buying. And ask about smells.

There's a landfill out there that smells like death. When I visit my in-laws, I wake up wondering if I've shat myself in the night.

It's not a bad area if you are looking for a simple life. I wouldn't mind retiring out there somewhere.

I don't think the school districts on the Ohio side are particularly good.

I would not want to drive from New Philly to Steubenville everyday. The stretch of 250 from New Philly to Cadiz is almost entirely 2-lane (50-60 mph) but with a lot of trucks. It's east to get stuck doing 45 for a long stretch. I think the stretch of 22 from Cadiz to Steubenville is mostly 4-lane, 55-65 mph, so that wouldn't be as bad, but, like Taos said.....an hour and change each way.

Stuebenville isn't that bad. If your work takes you there you'll be fine. Yes you'll be surrounded by the river folk, but they are friendly enough. The schools are okay. I've always held to the belief that schools only make a difference when the parents are lazy and not working with their own children. If you are concerned there is a very good Catholic school there. You'll be able to get a decent home on the cheap. Invest the savings and you'll be further ahead. Probably the worst part of living there is getting WVU shoved down your throat. They sure do love their 'eers. If they do win a big game you can enjoy driving around watching all the WVU fans burning couches on their lawn. Pittsburg is close enough, you can head up there for museums and the zoo if you have children. There is plenty of good hunting and fishing if that's your thing. It'll be an adjustment going from a city to a more small town area, if you keep an open mind about it all you'll have fun.

Alot depends on what you're looking for. Stuebenville itself is definitely
not the answer. Moon Township is pretty decent. They have decent housing compared to nearby Sewickly and some of the high priced 'Burbs. It's close to the Pittsburgh Airport, probably 20 minutes from downtown and probably 30 minutes from Stuebenville.

Prosecutors charge Ohio couple with forcing children in plastic storage boxes as punishment

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio ? A couple from eastern Ohio has been charged with forcing their children into plastic storage boxes as a form of punishment. A prosecutor told local media outlets that the couple used duct tape to seal their three children, ages 5, 7, and 8, inside the plastic storage containers, which had a hole cut in the top for air.

The parents from Steubenville were indicted this week on charges of endangering children and unlawful restraint. Prosecutors said two other people are charged with knowing about the abuse and not doing anything about it.
WTOV-TV reports that the alleged abuse was discovered in June. The children are safe and have been staying with family members since then.
