Lee County (GA) HS Quarterback Stephen Collier was determined to earn an Ohio State offer & did so after camping with the Buckeyes in early June. He accepted the offer on the spot & became the 12th member of the 2014 Ohio State class on June 21st, 2013.
The BPRT was lucky enough to catch up with Stephen for another installment of The Straight Six.
I think of tradition, of winning, of excellence. There's no better place to play football at than The Ohio State University. The fan base is unbelievable. You wouldn't believe how many times I walk around in public and get and "O-H" call all the way down here in South Georgia. The coaching staff in absolutely phenomenal. They care about their players and push them to their limits at the same time. And lastly the chance to compete for a National Championship is priceless. Ohio State is the best there is.
I want to win a state championship. Nothing more and nothing less. It's going to be a long road but I believe it can be done.
I want people to remember me as child of God first and foremost. Secondly though I'd want people to remember that I was a fighter, and a hard worker who was never content with just good enough.
I think some strengths that I have are my ability to make plays happen when things break down, my arm strength, and pocket presence. I'd like to work on my speed for sure.
When I got my offer from Ohio State I was absolutely speechless. Literally. I couldn't get words out of my mouth. Ohio State had been a dream ever since coach Herman first came down to watch me in the Spring for practice. I committed right on the spot because I knew Ohio State was where I wanted to be. My family was in the room with me and when the phone call was done we all just started screaming. Smiles were everywhere and it was just a great surreal moment. One part that not too many people acknowledge though is the time when you have to call the other schools to tell them you're not coming to their school. That was rough because you develop relationships with all of these great coaches from all over but ultimately you have to do what feels right to you. After that though news cameras were at my house within 30 minutes, and since then I haven't looked back! I'm glad to be a Buck.
I love to read and hang out with my awesome friends. People like JJ, David, Katherine, and Justin have been there for me since I can remember and it's always good to be able to put the hectic life of an OSU QB commit aside for a few moments.
