It started with Kiffin at Hawaii Thursday night, continued with Vandy last night and Tulsa is putting on a clinic today. I figured there might as well be a thread for it because history suggests there will be plenty of stupid, unnecessary two point attempts that fail and ultimately bite a team in the ass this season.
What is a stupid TPC? For starters, ANY in the first half. Period. Even the third quarter is highly questionable given the amount of time for things to happen. Go for two when you HAVE to go for two. Don't try to trick 'em in the first half; don't feel compelled to get back to the magical world of sevens and threes just for the sake of it (tear up "the card" already). Two pointers fail over half the time; extra points succeed over 95 % of the time. Take the point.
Today, Tulsa trails ECU 38-35 with less than 10 minutes to play. The difference? THREE failed two pointers by Tulsa. It started when they scored a TD to go up 13-10 in the first half. Their coach had a "they'll never expect this" moment, went for two, and failed. That led to another attempt after going ahead 29-24 in the third quarter, and another failure. After regaining the lead early in the 4th, 35-31, he tried - and failed - again.
Stupid.
