Stupid two point conversions (SimpLLLLLe Jim loves 'em, and so does James Franklin)

Probably won't matter in this game, but it's the thought process. Colts defense got a safety in the first quarter at Seattle, so (of course) when they score a TD to make it 10-8 in the second quarter they go for two. They failed.

It doesn't happen often, since a safety is rare, but it seems like coaches feel the need to try to turn it into a field goal. More often than not, they turn it into a rouge. (See CFL rules if you don't know what "rouge" means)

Easy. A rouge is that stealth class in WoW that keeps killing you 363351562 times while they're max level and you're level 12.

From the Buffalo-W. MI seven-overtimes game recap:

Teams are required to go for two-point conversions on touchdowns after the first two overtime periods, which means frequent chances for the teams to land on different point totals and end the game.

This game would seem to have emphasized a tiny flaw in that logic.

The Tampa Bay Bucs managed to go for three stupid 2 point conversions in one half - I suspect they were looking at The Card™. The last one came with them down 12 in the 4th - kick the XP and keep the FG in play.

They failed all 3 times.

Just gonna leave this here:

Meh. I'm not going to roast him for that. If they go for 1 and get it, they're down by 8. They still need a touchdown and 2-pt conversion. They just moved their own demise up by a minute.
Plus, if they go for 1 and they're down by 8, and they know they need 1 touchdown and 1 2-pt conversion. They can play for the 1 possession game. If they miss that 2-pt conversion, they're SOL. If they're down 9, they know they need 2 possessions. Sure, that means onside kick, quick passes for a quick touchdown, another onside kick, and then play for the field goal to win. Likelihood has to be way below 100%. Probably below 1%.

Meh. If I've read this self-fulfilling argument many times and it still fails the logic test.

The only reason "they know they need two scores" is because they created the situation by chasing points, against the odds. They made it a two score game when the odds of making it a one score game were much higher. It's a poor decision.

Bowl season doesn't really begin until the first STPC takes place. North Texas did the honors by chasing points 5 minutes into the 2nd quarter, down 22-13. They're still down 22-13 but now "they know what they need", which is typically the case in the aftermath of any bad decision.

When you score on the first play of the 4th quarter to make it 28-23 it's important to cut the deficit to a field goal...unless you fail. Arkansas State did, and a Middle Tennessee TD later they find themselves down by 12 with 10 minutes to play. At least they don't have to consider a FG now.

The part that I liked is that they had already made the 1-point conversion. The defense was called for offsides, so they took the point off the board and went for two. It's not everyday that you see an offsides penalty cost the OTHER team a point.

South Carolina scores a TD with 2:25 left in third against Michigan to make the score 19-9. Instead of kicking to XP to pull within 9 at 19-10 (and thus can win with a TF and FG), they go for, and fail, the 2-pt conversion. Now that same TD-FG combo only gets them to OT...and keep in mind this was still in the third quarter.
