Just a couple of observations regarding Matta's first year as OSU's Head Coach.

I am unable to find a single instance in Obie's tenure where he recruited a player who was ranked nationally in the top 10 at their position.

As Matta prepares for his SECOND season he has garnered SEVEN such recruits.

In his last three YEARS with OSU Obie only brought in EIGHT players of any caliber and three of those transferred without making a contribution.

And when the much anticipated Oden-lead class comes on board just next year the OSU roster will include only THREE players who - as of this writing - have ever played in a game for OSU.

I can't recall anything quite like it at any school, and certainly unprecedented at OSU.

I heard on the radio today that Oden is now saying he's gonna wait til the sanctions are issued til he inks. Any insight?

He has been saying that for some time, and is not alone among recruits. I believe Conley's Dad is saying clearly that the only thing that would keep them from signing is a post season ban thruogh next year - which is unheard of for this sort of infraction. But they are just being smart. They don't get anything extra for signing now and are not out looking at other schools.

Not to worry.

Realize this fellas...we are out recruiting Duke, Kentucky, UConn etc!!!! Matta has proven what he can do with good talent...whats he gobnna do with the best talent.

I can tell the Sparties are nervous. I have read their boards and they are shaking their heads. If we make the Sweet 16 or Elite 8...Watch out.

The next 4-5 years are critical for the OSU BBall program. Let's not kid ourselves - these kids are coming to play for Matt, not OSU. But every OSU makes a serious run in the tourney that success becomes more closely associated with the University.

I want Matta to be around for a long time. But I also want this to continue after he is gone.

The only thing that scares me about Matta is that he will leave after 3-5 years......when the fab 4 leave town. Lets be realistic here fellas, he has had succes wherever he has gone, if he continues it he will be a very hot ticket for the NBA........and huge$$$$. Coaches like him love the challenge, which may be a bad thing for us.

whoa, whoa, whoa...

we're talking about national title runs, continually great recruited classes, and matta having so much success that he will likely leave for the nba. umm, how many players has osu signed so far? i know it is highly probable that we'll get the signatures, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. one fell slash of the ncaa's sword and all of we've been presuming will evaporate. i'll start to party only after the ncaa releases minimal or no sanctions.

i don't exactly think that the bananas should be stretching just yet.

First and foremost, all the recruits in the 2006 class will sign their LOIs. Its just a matter of when. I am hearing now that it will most likely be in November for Oden and co.

I just have a problem when posters get on that hardly post and throw a negative spin on something that most Buckeye fans are very excited about. Why piss on the parade?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but lets be realistic.....the NCAA will not punish OSU past a loss of a few scholarships and taking down some banners.

Past NCAA decisions support my opinion. I just don't understand why some so called Buckeye fans need to be so negative. :(

our 06 guys are coming on board. We have an 07 verbal who changed his mind despite a lot of family conflict to do so (he had verballed really early to play with his bro elsewhere). Two other guys in 07 accidentally give away their intentions to come to OSU occasionally :), and our 08 C verbal gave us his commitment before any of the others I listed above.

You also don't know that matta is going to the NBA. He could if he wanted to, but he hasn't given any indication of this. We heard this argument on the wake forest scout board constantly. If you can't realize there is a difference between a steppping stone school like Xavier and what will soon return to its glory days as a top bball school (OSU), then I guess you should go on being terrified of the NBA. Besides, even if he goes pro, we will have quite a winning tradition set in place, and will do fine without him (not suggestinghe can be replaced 100%).

i'm not being negative; i'm just not counting chickens before they hatch. that's all. where is this "negative spin" that you're talking about? i didn't spin anything. all i wrote was that it is a bit presumptive to think that matta may one day leave osu because of all of his success. this was the post to which i was referring:

" The only thing that scares me about Matta is that he will leave after 3-5 years......when the fab 4 leave town. and please don't attempt to produce a divide between those who have been members for a short period of time (me) and those who have been here for a long time. am i supposed to have a quota of posts? also please distinguish the difference between being negative, which is writing that we will receive further sanctions (something i never wrote), and being practical. i'm an optimistic ohio state fan, too, but i am not about to sign checks before i have the funds. as i wrote before, i'll start to party only after the ncaa releases minimal or no more sanctions. heck, i'll really start to party once these great players become buckeyes and suit-up.

finally, the ncaa has yet to release its decision. i, too, do not think that the ncaa will punish osu so greatly that the prospective recruits will head elsewhere. do i know this? no, i don't. why don't i know this? i don't know this because i'm not involved directly with the ncaa nor am i an insider. is anbody here involved with the ncaa insofar as to know which direction they're headed? i've read only speculations on this board. that's fine. there's nothing wrong with speculation. most of this board is speculation, and i appreciate reading the speculations. i appreciate reading all that the posters find; however, i will believe that the ncaa will not punish osu harshly only when the ncaa releases their findings.
