Tailgating Question From A Horn

Orangeblood

HornFan Against Holbrook
Greetings,

Nice site ya got here. Unlike a lot of other rival sites, there's actually good football talk on this board which leads me to believe you might be able to help me out. I'm a UT alum and looking forward to the game (I'll save my thoughts on the game for another thread) and we've rented an RV to make the trip to Columbus.

My question is this... what's the tailgating scene like? I've been to LSU games where RV's are back to back for miles but I've also been to games where it's tough to find a grill. I'm assuming with a school like OSU, you're tailgates are going to be solid.

That said... is there a special place to park our RV when coming in so that we're in the thick of things come game day? Do we need a parking permit or is it first come/first serve? We're arriving on Friday morning to check out the sites and we already have reservations at El Monte RV (first one I found) if we can't park in the parking lot on Friday night.

ANY advice at all would be helpful. I worked in Akron for a summer during college, and had to defend Texas football for three months. You have a heck of a school, and I'm looking forward to our two programs matching up.

Thanks in advance and Hook'em.

Thanks fellas..

Thanks for the help guys. The tailgating will start for us when we hit the road on Thursday afternoon.... now over to the "Texas Game" board so I can discuss the similarities between Reggie Bush and Ramonce Taylor. :)

I don't know the exact locations, but I do that RV parking is available, and begins on Friday morning. I'm pretty sure it costs $50, and that's for Friday through Sunday. There are a couple of different lots, but the main one is pretty close to the 'Shoe. I would also recommend sending a PM to Scooter, he'll be able to answer any question you have.

As for the tailgating scene...well, three years ago, there was none better. The last couple of years, however, the cops have been out in full force writing tickets for open container, so I would recommend being careful. At a minimum, poor your beer in non-transparent cups, and don't get too out of control (where you would attract attention). There are plenty of tailgating spots that sell alcohol, however, so feel free to go there - Hiney Gate, Varsity Club, and the CD101 parties are the best and biggest. I believe most of your Texas fans will be congregating at the CD101 bash. All of these places are located along Lane Avenue, which is just north of St. John's Arena, which is just north of the 'Shoe.

Wooooaahhh

Sorry if this is old news to you all, but I just read the thread about the Michigan tailgate from MililaniBuckeye and saw a NASTY rumor that there's no alcohol allowed in the parking lots?? WTF?

Again, I'm new to this board so bear with me, but is this just a rule that's a formality but nobody follows or do they seriously crack down on this? That would be a buzzkill if one of our crew got ticketed for drinking a beer after the 19 hour hike up there. This is also troublesome because it makes the keg idea a little more tricky.

If there is a NO ALCOHOL rule, does it extend to the RV parking lots? For example... if we're drinking a whiskey/coke outside our RV are we in danger of getting kicked out of the area??

I'm probably preaching to the choir, but a rule like that is total horseshit and if this Holbrook lady is the cause, I'd like to order one of those shirts in burnt orange if I can. :wink2:

You can still get a keg, just keep it in the rv. You may have to go inside to fill up your cup, but it's cheaper than going through cases. Just don't put the keg outside, and use clear plastic cups.

Also, you may want to stop at a McDonald's and order a super-size Coke... keep the glass/lid/straw for a rum and coke. You can walk pretty much anywhere without drawing suspicion.

You will make friends with many a buckeye fan with that avatar. Every chance her face comes up on the scoreboard during a game in the 'Shoe the whole crowd boos in unison.

She's trying to run our school like a business, handing out grants to researchers only if they sell their souls to OSU as well as all of their intellectual property. My friend had to fight her cronies for 6 years before he could patent and make money off of a discovery he ALONE made at Ohio State.

Also, if she had it her way, the Horseshoe would be turned into a giant conservatory for research on flowering plants.
