Today: Jake Ballard, tight end.

Question: So you just get signed and a few days later you’re on the field, catching your first pass of the season and playing 22 snaps on offense. Is that just the veteran in you or what?

Answer: I think so. Playing in the number of games I have (14 with the Giants in 2011), I kind of knew what was expected and I wasn’t too nervous about much.

Q: What was it like to get in there so fast?

A: It was awesome. It was a lot of fun. I was pumped to be a part of the team and be around these guys and I think it’s just going to keep building from there.

Q: You tore your ACL in Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants, how is the knee now?

@ZoltanMesko: #BeatOhio” it's Ohio State... And beating us is something you have no personal experience doing.... #gobucks
@TheJakeBallard

On Twitter, former New England Patriots teammates Jake Ballard and Zoltan Mesko had a little exchange that Ohio State fans seemed to enjoy. I retweeted Ballard's response to Mesko's #BeatOhio on Monday afternoon and more than 100 followers quickly retweeted it. Obviously Ballard the Buckeye and Mesko, a Twinsburg native and former Wolverine, know each other, so it's not as harsh as it may appear on Twitter. But OSU fans liked Ballard standing up for Ohio State, knocking down Mesko calling the Buckeyes "Ohio" and offering the reminder that Ballard was undefeated against Michigan and Mesko was winless against the Buckeyes.

Re: Having a quality of life after football is very important to me and I have witnessed it taken away from others. I will miss the game tremendously, but I am ready for this next chapter in my life."

I guess he did have a "better than expected" NFL career for an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State. It did include one Super Bowl ring; however (unfortunately) he did injure that knee in the Super Bowl. Good luck with the "next chapter in your life" Jake.

Anyone else remember his "signature play" while at Ohio State (i.e. in the 2010 Rose Bowl)?

During the 2010 Rose Bowl, he made a critical catch that helped Ohio State beat Oregon. In the 4th quarter with nine minutes remaining Ohio State up 19-17 facing 3rd and 13 from their own 45, Ballard, while being surrounded by several Oregon defenders, jumped and caught a high pass thrown by Terrelle Pryor for 24 yards and a critical first down. The drive concluded with the game-clinching touchdown that put Ohio State up 26-17, which would be the final score.

We don't win without that catch.
