TE Marcus Baugh (Birmingham Stallions)

I think it is best to just release the kid. He obviously has an alcoholic problem. Meyer needs to just kick him off the team with a 3 strikes and your out policy. The kid needs to reassess his priorities in life and learn to control his alcohol consumption. Get help and grow up

How do you get arrested 3 times for underage consumption at Ohio State? I mean, is he chugging beers while standing on cop cars yelling about how cool it is to be drinking even though he's not 21?

That's the only way I find it possible.

He must be doing something stupid in public, because I'd be willing to bet about 95% of us here SHOULD have been arrested for underage drinking while at Ohio State, at least once if not every weekend. Funny story about the cops and drinking. My freshman year '99, I was at a complex party (I've forgotten where) and I'm pretty sure it was Halloween. We see kinda the crowds kinda parting some cops come pushing through, sure enough there is a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer clad drunken Steve Bellisari being escorted back to his place, I'm pretty sure he was underage at the time... My how times have changed.

Here is what it boils down to in my eyes.

Does he really value his football career and free education at the Ohio State University and has he demonstrated the ability to do what is expected in return for this great opportunity?
Can he avoid being a distraction to the team during his career?
Has he shown a willingness to follow guidance and actually been an asset to the team?

If you can't even answer yes to ONE of those 3 questions you should be shown the door.

I've been guilty of underage drinking at least 1,000 times in my life, and never got cited once. How you can get three in a year is mind boggling to me......

On the bright side, at least it's "only" alcohol and not weed or worse......

I'm all for giving second (and third) chances, but enough is enough. Time to move on.

This is his 3rd strike? What was the second one? I remember the trouble he got into when he first got to Columbus, but what's the other time?

Re: Baugh redshirted last season and spent much of the year in Urban Meyer’s doghouse. Baugh, a native of Riverside, Calif., was suspended for the season opener against Buffalo after being arrested in July for underage consumption and carrying a fake ID. He lost his summer student aid and was removed from all team activities.
Baugh was reinstated after meeting a set of guidelines put in place by the coaching staff. But in September, he ran afoul of team rules and was removed from all team activities. He redeemed himself, though, by impressing coaches with his work ethic.
In December, Baugh had his black stripe removed, a ceremonial gesture “officially” making him a member of the team. He was one of many underclassmen who performed well during Orange Bowl practice.

A) 1,000 times before 21? I think you need some rehab as well

B) I can't say I'm thankful it's "just" alcohol. I get what you're saying that you can be thankful it's not hard drugs or something along those lines but this is a clear pattern and the temptation will always be there while in college. If this is his 3rd situation, you just have to be thankful none of this involved a motor vehicle (as far as I know).

Talented kid, no doubt, but I have to agree with some others that this reeks of some other deeper issues. Maybe the kid is homesick, maybe the kid can't handle being on a pedestal, but without very serious recourse I don't want to imagine a 4th run afoul as he's lucky to be given so many chances already.

This appears on the surface to be a serious life issue for Marcus. I hope the coaches and the University can work to get him the help he needs, and I expect they will. Football and playing for tOSU would be secondary at this point in time.

I agree here. Marcus Baugh (the young man) needs some help. I would guess that the coaching staff made certain promises to his parents during the recruiting process concerning his personal well being, development, and education, etc. that should be considered. Also, most great coaches (including Urban, I read his book) get as much pride with their success in facilitating character development and the maturation of the young athletes as do in improving his play on the field.

Kid gets busted twice for underage consumption and the e-Dr. Phils are out diagnosing alcoholism. lol

Rather be safe than sorry. Yes it could be normal under age consumption or the drinking could be a real problem. Get the kid some counseling, run his ass off and let him know this is his last chance. Of course this may have already been addressed.
