The first roster for Team USA has been put out, which is coached by Mike Krzyzewski. Here is the team as of right now:

Carmelo Anthony, Denver
Gilbert Arenas, Washington
Shane Battier, Memphis
Chauncey Billups, Detroit
Chris Bosh, Toronto
Bruce Bowen, San Antonio
Elton Brand, L.A. Clippers
Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers
Dwight Howard, Orlando
Josh Howard, Dallas
LeBron James, Cleveland
Antawn Jamison, Washington
Joe Johnson, Atlanta
Rashard Lewis, Seattle
Shawn Marion, Phoenix
Brad Miller, Sacramento
Chris Paul, NO/Okla. City
Paul Pierce, Boston
Michael Redd, Milwaukee
Luke Ridnour, Seattle
Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix
Dwyane Wade, Miami

Current big name players that were not asked to be on Team USA or were denied by them:

Lamar Odem, L.A. Lakers
Allen Iverson, Philadelphia
Kevin Garnett, Minnesota
Vince Carter, Toronto
Ray Allen, Seattle
Jason Kidd, New Jersey
Jermaine O'Neal, Indiana
Tracy McGrady, Houston
Richard Hamilton, Detroit
Tayshaun Prince, Detroit

There are still 3 slots that will be filled later with younger guys and the top three for so far are Adam Morrison (Gonzaga), JJ Redick (Duke), and Greg Oden (High School). Which would bring the total roster for the training camp up to 25 guys.

Any suprises for anyone?

How dont you invite the Big Ticket or Jermaine O'Neal? Both are better than Brad Miller. Also wouldnt mind seeing Ray Allen there.

Other than that, looks like a good list. Bruce Bowen is an absolute monster defensively.

EDIT: Except for Paul Pierce. Hes not a team player, and is just a thug.

I am absolutely shocked that Carmelo Anthony's name is on the list, considering his crummy performance when he actually got in the game and pouted on the bench during the Olympics at Athens.

Anthony's stats in Athens

G/S FGM-A Pct 3PM-A Pct FTM-A Pct Reb/Avg Pts/Avg At Bk St
7/0 7-28 .250 2-11 .182 1-2 .500 11/1.6 17/2.4 0 0 2

Im suprised that Carter and Garnett were not invited/turned down. But the thing that suprises me the most is Duncan. His name is no where on any list and he is one of the top 3-5 best players in the NBA. Unless this year he decided not to play for the USA and represent the Virgin Islands or something.

I'm almost certain that Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O'Neal both declined to be put on the team, not the other way around.

Anyone disagree with Battier being on the roster? It doesnt make any sense to me. Ray Allen is a great shooter, who should be on the team. He and Redd were exactly what we needed last time.

There is an invite for Shaq still out there, he has responded to it yet.

As for Shane, does seem odd considering the guys that were declined. But just remember out of the 25 guys going to the training camp only 12 are selected for the actual Team USA roster.

Redick and Morrison would probably be good to add since they're shooters. That's what the Olympic team was missing last time. Can you imagine how open Redick would be if he was on the court with Kobe, Lebron, Bosh, and Howard. It would be great for Oden to get to take part in that so that he could play with the big time players. I just hope he wouldn't get in any trouble with the NCAA since everyone else on that list will be living the NBA lifestyle. IIRC there are some big name NBA players who didn't want to play that aren't on that list i.e. Duncun. BTW are there any centers on that team besides Brad Miller? Z would have a field day against that lineup.

Amare Stoudemire is a PF/C

The team is going more for quickness and skill rather then big men under the hoop. There are some guys that can hold their own under the hoop on the list. People like Bosh, Howard, Stoudemire, Brand.

I would go with the following:

PG - Billups
He'll be 31 or so by then, but I don't see his game dropping off. He's the consummate floor general. Love his game.
Backups - Chris Paul, Luke Ridnour

SG - Wade
No brainer. You have to have him.
Backups - Michael Redd, J.J. Redick

SF - LeBron
Another no brainer. Can't wait to see him in two years.
Backup - Adam Morrison

PF - Amare
He's a beast. Just the kind of player that will dominate smaller foreign forwards.
Backup - Chris Bosh

C - Dwight Howard
The man-child will only be 22, but he's already a double-double machine.
Backup - Gred Oden

I'd love to find a spot for Bowen, but they guy's gonna be something like 37. Yikes.

My Lineup would be:

PG - Arenas
- best PG in the NBA right now, he can pass it, drain a shot from anywhere, and can take it to the hoop like a big man
Backups: Billups

SG - Kobe
- obvious, maybe the best player in the NBA right now and will go down as one of the greatest all time
Backups: Redd, Wade

SF - LeBron
- obvious, this kid a load of talent ready to be unleashed on anyone that gets in his way
Backups: Pierce, Jamison

PF - Brand
- a hot player right now, basically carrying the Clippers on his back and lots of talk for MVP
Backups: Marion

C - Amare
- a beast among men, this kid is ridiculous on offense and defensive, will it take anyone on 1v1 down low
Backups: Miller
