i mean actually on university property. Where the students live there are at least two or three bars that they actually go to, most people go to sixth street though(campus runs from 19th to 26th) think bourbon street with more room, more bars, and more rules.

Cactus Cafe, it's in an actual campus building. They also sell beer right next door at the Union Underground. I've never heard a good explanation of why they are allowed to sell.... must be a loophole somewhere. But yeah, it sucks for the most part.

No one cares on game days though, as long as you're headed somewhere. I can't remember the last time I wasn't drinking beer on a walk through campus on gameday.

Hineygate looks like fun. Although it looks like I might want to wear neutral colors if I go.

only people that i have ever seen in the cactus cafe were random graduate students/TA's and kids that just turned 21 getting birthday shots.

as for drinking on gameday, the only place that i have ever seen someone get in trouble was actually inside the stadium. I had a friend get searched by the cops while MTV filmed a show about binge drininking. He was carrying a bag of tums and they kept asking him if they were drugs. After that they put holes in his flask and poored it out. really kind of a dick thing to do. the show never aired but he did have to sign a waiver saying that they could use the footage.

What's the story about Campus Partners shutting down the bars along High Street? Who is Campus Partners anyway? Doesn't sound like my kind of organization. I've been gone a long time, and tend to hang out downtown when I visit, but I can't believe they would close all those great beer drinkin' places. I had a lot of fun in The Oar House, Papa Joe's and The Library to name a few.

There are going to be a few new bars in the Gateway District.

As far as campus area, the remaining bars/clubs from North High to South Campus, off the top of my head, would be :

Miani's
Ledos
Oldfields on High
Scarlet and Gray Cafe
Blue Danube
Dick's Den
The Library
Thirsty Scholar
Beer Stube
Out R In
Old School (bar/dance club, it replaced aqua/alcatraz)
BW3's
Bernies
Larry's
Mama's Pasta and Brew
Notal Toos
The Northberg (rentable 'bar' under Donatos)
Four Kegs
Panini's Sports Bar
Bento Go Go (japanese restaurant, but they have a ba that student's go to)
Varsity Club
Estrada's
Migg's

Woody's -- expensive "bar" in the student Union..

I may be forgetting some, but that's a pretty solid list.
Also, my friend is a manager at Pita Pit, which bought the Moe's Southwestern place next door. He said there used to be a bar underneath that commercial space, and as of next year they're going to reopen it.

Just my opinion, but I think Old School is a pretty lame place and the owner seems like an asshole. There's definately much better places to go, so if you feel like listening to me scratch that one off the list.

maybe one of ya'll knows this ...Why is Buffalo Wild Wings called BW3's?
Per their website they were origionally called Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck. (weck??)
They then shortened it to BW3. I still call it BW3, or b-dubbs.
BTW, they are from Ohio, started the first one in Kent.

Somone just bought the place out and is supposedly changing some stuff around (i.e. dress code, etc.)
I have only been there once (4 years ago), and probably wouldnt go back.

Yeah, the new guy is the asshole and it still sucks. Some other changes are that girls can now take a trip into the back room for a bit with the owner. What goes on back there one can only guess (it's not hard to guess), but like I said, the guy seems like a dick and I definately wouldn't go there.

just my oppinion but anyplace with a dress code in a college town has got to go. That is one of my favorite things about austin. I couldnt think of five bars that you can't go to right off the lake

I think its because they have had their share of problems as of late.
Last I heard they might lose their liquor license this week.
Plus they had a shooting take place out front, the argument originating inside.
None of the campus bars have a dress code, downtown in the Arena district is another story.

Oh, I agree it sucks.. But that wasn't a list of the 'good' places, just a list.
I usually end up at 4 kegs, some people love it, some hate it. I just go because I live on 15th so it's within stumbling distance.
