do you guys/(gals? if any) think you could beat texas if you played them now?
That is something that my wife asked me yesterday and I told her that your defense was better and some key players on offense are also better.
what do you think?

this is going to open up an old can of worms. be essentially were beating them the entire game and barely lost to them. at a point when we had qbs splitting time and sputtering offense. i think anyone in buckeye nation thinks we can play with anyone in the country.

we lost to the #3 psu team and basically they did nothing against us. had a chance to win it at the end of the game and fumbled (like the texas game). also their big score came on a smith interception returned inside the five.

personally i believe we can "play with" anyone in the country.

Yup. I think we'd win.

I missed the first game. I was in Louisiana helping with Hurricane Katrina and missed the first month of the season. One of the residents was listening to an LSU game over the radio. When I asked her to tell me the score of the OSU/Texas game, she said she would once she heard.

An hour later, she told me that Ohio State won. I was on top of the world for a week and a half before I found out what really happened. If I ran into her again, I'd...I'd...

*sigh*

We'd sure love another shot! Hard to say if we'd win this time. I'd like to think we would, but it would definately be another classic like the one on SEP 10th. Both of our teams have improved as the season has gone on. The one difference maker may be that our offense has really hit its stride since the second half of the MSU game.

I think that is Smith hadn't been suspened (I blame that for our slow start on offense this year) then we would be undefeated right now. Water under the bridge though. I also think this will get merged with the Texas thread in a few minutes haha.

many of us, including myself, still ask "what if" we were in midseason form on offense (our D was incredible in that game). We held a 50 ppg offense to 23 pts (not counting the safety at the end).

Troy was lost early on this year. It wasn't just texas, he was errant the following game vs SDSU as well, and again against PSU. He seemed to take big strides. He didn't progress thru WRs, scrambled too much, and admitted that he tried to make too much happen every play.

We would not blow them away this time of year. But we corralled Texas' vaunted offense with Mr. Young, and simply could not score TDs.

They bounced one of their kicks thru. Huston made all of his kicks except the important one. And give hamby 10 more chances at that td and I bet he catches at least 8 of them.

I think we could...I'm not convinced we would.

BOTH teams are better than when we first played. I think OSU has had a little more relative improvement from the beginning of the year to now, but that still doesn't mean that we're a better team.

In my opinion the matchup is as even as it was earlier in the season...Since the Longhorns won IN Columbus, I still give them the edge on a neutral field. It's too bad neither team got to go into that game performing on all cylinders.

Good luck against USC!

I can honestly sit here and say I think we would beat them, but I think that they would have an evenly as good a shot at beating us. We have our QB problems ironed out and our running game has certainly taken off. I think it would be just as close as the first one.

I think if we played Texas 5 times, we win 3 of them. I believe we are a better "team", but not by much.

Texas fan. I agree with the spirit of this thread, in that the teams are very, very close. OSU offense has clearly improved, but so has ours. The defenses are both strong, but ours is showing some leaks lately. Best thing about it, is that we get to play next year. Don't miss it, it promises to be another classic. And good luck in your game against ND. It will be a great one.

I think that all of the field goals were important. But it would have been nice to score that last one.

And I still feel bad for Hamby. Who could possibly feel worse about it than he does?

I was thinking about this question about a week ago. If they played again, would Ohio State, playing better than they were earlier in the season, run up and down the field on Texas? Or maybe Texas had a bad game in Columbus, only scoring 25 points (I know.. 23.. 25.. they scored the safety against the Bucks' offense, but they still scored 25). I'd like to hear from Texas fans who still visit this site. Was their below-average scoring due to Texas not playing like they did the rest of the season, or to Ohio State?
