Thad Matta (OSU's All Time Winningest Coach & 3x B1G COY, Butler HC)

I am still a big Matta guy for what he has done for the program. I respect all of your basketball posts because usually you are right on but do you really want to go after a guy that was once Thad's assistant. If we are going to get a new coach, which I do not think we are going to do, I would rather have a guy from a bigger program with an est. track record and one hell of a recruiter.

Who could we realistically get other than Donovan that matches that criteria?

Isn't Wojowhateverthefuckski from Duke doing things up at Marquette?

I could swallow the stomach bile of having a branch of the rat faced bastard coaching tree if he could get us back to top 1/2 of the B1G consistently.

Why would that guy leave a job to come to Ohio State? Money? A coach who is all that is already being paid well.

As for Thad's assistant, he's doing more at Dayton in recent years than Thad is doing at Ohio State. One is trending up, the other down.
I think that most people like more money and Ohio State can probably offer more money than most schools.

Yes, Miller is doing pretty well at Dayton but he is not playing Big Ten schools on a regular basis. I know that he is in a good conference but it is still not the Big Ten. I also do not know how good of a recruiter he is at Dayton. I mean is he really getting big-name talent and I am not saying that Matta is but I just want to know more about Miller and bringing in the big time guys.

Still do not think that Matta is going to be going after this season no matter what..

that would be almost as bad as bring in Donovan. I am sure we can get a really good coach without bringing in Wowxnjhnski or anyone from that tree. I almost would rather finish last in the Big Ten:wink:

Is Donovan even an option? Leaving OKC for OSU seems like a pretty large step down for him even with the departure of KD.

He's stuck in limbo now with OKC. They aren't gonna be bad enough to get into the lottery & it's never going to be an attractive location to free agents. No guarantee Westbrook doesn't walk after this extension

Dramatic change in situation from when he got there. They are stuck in the 1st-2nd round of the playoffs for the foreseeable future.

He turned down Kentucky twice & stuck with a school where basketball took a backseat to football

History says the odds are the college coaches who try their hand at the NBA end up back in college. Cal, Pitino, Lon Krueger, Leonard Hamilton, Mike Montgomery, Tim Floyd

tOSU is a longshot to ever land a "big fish" cbb coach. A lot working against it. Big-time FB school, they play in a lousy arena, fan support is fickle, big dogs in the neighborhood (UK, IU, Purdue), checkered history. Their best bet is trying to catch lightning in a bottle like last time.

I agree that Matta is likely back next year. I understand why, but it's frustrating, because it means essentially wasting another year.
