Thad Matta (OSU's All Time Winningest Coach & 3x B1G COY, Butler HC)

This is getting closer to the kind of thing that ESPiN needs to do to repair this relationship. It's not ass-kissing, it's just putting the facts on the line objectively. There would be no problem if they had done this from the start.

OSU weekend - African American Heritage Festival - Dancing:(
Posted: 5/7/05 12:23:04 am
Man, I'd say they're gonna feel welcome this weekend. I wonder whether they planned this weekend or Matta tried to get them here for this.

I just went to osu's website and went to their news section and found out that they are having a big African American Heritage Festival this weekend.

Here's the official webpage for the heritage festival:
http://heritagefestival.osu.edu/
18th Annual Pan-Hellenic Council Step Show and After Party

7:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Schottenstein Center, 555 Borror Dr.

Sponsored by the U.S. Army "Stomping on the Yard Tour," Ohio State African American fraternities and sororities will exhibit their creativity and stepping prowess through one of the oldest traditions of African dance. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the show. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

I don't like the sound of sororities dancing... well lemme rephrase, I know how enjoyable that would be to watch as a guy.

...

Following this year's show will be an after party from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Ohio Union Ballroom. Organizers hope the after party will provide a safe place for people to have fun in a non-alcoholic environment.

"We usually try to have an outlet for people after the show," said Chibundu Nnake, step show co-chairman and vice president of the Iota Phi Theta fraternity. "It's a way that they can still party and stay safe."
--

Great so not only do they get to groove to the music as they watch hot sorority girls break it down, but they will surely go and get freaky with them after.

Dangit I hate matta.

In my opinion, I think it is hard for fans of a school like Wake, Duke, UNC, or ILL, who put all of their eggs into one basket(ball), to see how we could possibly challenge for championships (conference, tourney, etc.) and at the same time put a foot(ball) where it counts to schools like scUM, USC, Tenn, or AUB etc. If this sounds over-confident then I said it wrong but you can understand their concern. I consider this a golden era for Ohio State and only hope this momentum that we have continues. If things go as planned (or maybe as we just hope they go) then we can excel in the 2 sports that count the most and pay the bills. Not to say others don't do both very well (WIS, OKLA, FLA to name a few) but WIS hasn't taken the next step in fball and OKLA, FLA the same in bball. All i'm saying is we have a chance to do something great (what a plug!) and not many will ever pull that off, in a given era. Name a school and you identify that school with a single sport, and the others suffer. (Kansas, Arizona, Penn State, Georgia) Am i onto something here or just way too excited?

I think you're on to something for sure. As you pointed out, teams are considered football schools (USC, FSU, Bucks, PSU, Miami, scUM) or basketball schools (Duke, UNC, WF, Kansas, Indiana). Very rarely do any put together sustained success at both. Michigan did well in both through the early 90s, Oklahoma has good b-ball teams to match their football, Okie State has good football teams to go with typically good b-ball. However, the success in the "off" sport is typically short lived.

I think Tressel has proven the he will keep the Buckeye football team strong. The exciting thing is Matta is starting to convince people (including me) that the basketball potential at tOSU is HUGE. It's still very early in his career. A single 20 win season does not make the Buckeyes a basketball power - even if you throw in a solid recruiting class to boot. He needs to get top 20 recruiting classes year in and year out. If that happens, I'd say the Buckeyes will be the one school that can compete for a NC in both sports at any given year. :banger:

Considering many WF board posters often post 'exclusive clothes = conley?' ... Here's a very interesting post:

Does Wake have any African American sororities?

WHen I was in Vegas last summer me and Oden met some delta that I believe attended Wake.
He's been regarded as a reliable insider by Kyle Lamb... and his avatar looks like its a picture of conley. Not sure, but it makes for an interesting consideration.

And EC used to say it was Wake for sure, but once Matta pushed hard the last month or more he has changed his tune to say he's gonna be a buckeye.

Not that we aren't feeling confident about teh kid at this point, but just something to get you through the weekend until Kyle Lamb gives us an update.

Agreed. just thought it was an interesting anecdote as exclusive clothes was the provider of some cool inside info before.

Ever since I heard from him a month ago or more that Cook and Conley were talking to Young constantly, I was sold. Oden declaring OSU his #1 that weekend solidified my feelings.

Well, the big weekend arrived and went.........by all accounts, Oden and Conley really enjoyed themselves and got to see the academic side of OSU along with spending time with the team and getting a feel for the program.

No verbals were issued, but I feel were in the lead for Conley and Oden. I know Conley made some comments about waiting until the end of the summer, but I think realistically that a decision will be made for both of these kids in the next month.

Oden will be on a college campus in the near futre and I feel it will be at OSU.

Oden & Conley could not get a direct flight, so Matta drove to Indy and picked them up himself. Talk about a coach pulling out all the stops and doing whatever it takes. That's a great move by Matta.

Topics this week include Ohio State's future powerhouse, UNLV's mediocrity, DePaul's gem of a hire and much more. Have a question for Mike? E-mail him at [email protected].Mike:

I don't know if you have noticed, but Ohio State coach Thad Matta is making a big splash in the recruiting pool. He already has Ohio's best recruits committed — No. 8 national prospect Daequan Cook and No. 16 David Lighty — and reports are that No. 1 prospect Greg Oden and point guard Mike Conley are not far behind. That isn't bad for a school that didn't even go to the NCAA tournament this year. This might be deserving of some ink on your part, don't you think?

— Mike Jones

Mike:

I wrote about Cook's commitment back when it occurred. He's a tremendous prospect — a big shooting guard who is athletic and strong and has a very economical game. I've not yet had the pleasure of seeing Lighty, but it's a coup for a program to be able to sign two highly rated wing players in the same class.

Oden and Conley, high school and club teammates, visited last weekend. They are considering several other schools and have busy summer schedules of camps and competition. Of course, Oden's arrival on a college campus in the fall of 2006 likely will be predicated on the NBA introducing its proposed 20-year age limit.

In any case, Ohio State is moving rapidly forward, which is what I predicted would happen if Matta were hired. I expect that OSU eventually will win a national championship with Matta as coach. At least one.

Ohhhhhh.....YEAH!!!! :groove:

He's not buying the Oden-to-college thing either, huh? Either way, Matta has started the snowball down the mountain. It's just a matter of time until it's a run-away avalanche.
