The 2020 College Football Season

The vote is actually Tuesday. I just wanted to be the first to say it, since we all know it'll get "pushed back" again and again.

I’ll see your one day bump to Tuesday and raise ya two more to Thursday.

I’ll see both of y’all and raise you the vote happened over a month ago and will not be revisited .....

Big Ten members confident presidents, chancellors will approve plan to play football in 2020

MADISON, Wis. — For the first time since the Big Ten shut down all fall sports on Aug. 11, people familiar with the decision have transitioned from hopeful to confident the league’s football teams will play in 2020.

Those people told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel they expect the Big Ten’s Council of Presidents and Chancellors will vote to start the season, with the target date Oct. 17.

The Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted, 11-3, last month to shut down all Big Ten fall sports because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

Ohio State, Nebraska and Iowa were the three schools that voted to play.

Nine votes will be needed to reverse the original decision, and Wisconsin is expected to vote yes this time.

The people who spoke on the condition of anonymity reiterated that reliable, rapid testing has played a critical role and helped turn the tide in the favor of trying to play this year.

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez has consistently talked about the importance of such tests, beginning with a Zoom session on Aug. 11.

The Big Ten’s medical subcommittee on Saturday made a formal presentation to the league’s presidential steering committee, which features presidents/chancellors from eight schools.

The 14-member Council of Presidents and Chancellors is scheduled to briefed Sunday on the medical updates.

The council could approve the plan Sunday or Monday.

An Oct. 17 start date would be critical for Wisconsin because Alvarez, the chairperson of the Big Ten’s return to competition task force, announced Wednesday that the football and men’s hockey workouts were being shut down for two weeks.

Alvarez said on his monthly radio show that, according to head coach Paul Chryst, Wisconsin would require only three weeks of prep time to play an opener.

An Oct. 17 start would allow Big Ten teams to play eight games in a nine-week window, with a league title game on Dec. 19.

The College Football Playoff field is scheduled to be revealed on Dec. 20.

The league’s football coaches and athletic directors understand the road ahead could be rocky but they are convinced they’ll be able to take that first step on Oct. 17.

If they’re looking at Oct 17th instead of Oct 10th, I think that’s partially due to Wiscy and the Pedsters both shutting down football activities for two weeks due to recent test results. They want 3 weeks to practice before the first game.

Start the season on October 10th and give Wisky and the Pedsters their bye week on the 10th. Problem solved....

Regardless it will be interesting to see which teams "opt out" and what political party their state's governor is aligned to.....

If it's really a Oct 17th start date, that means a 10-game season would have the last games on Dec 19th...the CFP selection is the next day. So, one of three things will happen:

1. A 10-game seasons, no bye week, no CCG.
2. A nine-game season, no bye week, CCG on Dec 19th.
3. An eight-game season, one bye week, CCG on Dec 19th.

If option #3, then either put the bye week one the middle of the season for all Two four-game half season essentially) and then the CCG immediately after the last regular season game; or play the eight-game season straight through and put the bye week between the last games and the CCG.

I personally like option 3 with the bye week being the in the middle of the season.

Yeah, I think you need a bye midseason in case a game postponed.

I also don't think the CCG is essential since we didn't have one for most of the conference's history. If you can, great, but not at the expense on entire week of games. The season is already shorter than ACC, SEC, and Big XII teams will play.

The hope from Ohio State is that a season can begin by the middle of next month. Ryan Day put out a statement on Thursday to call for a mid-October start to the season since the Big Ten's medical subcommittee “has done an excellent job of creating a safe pathway toward returning to play in mid-October.” He reiterated his hope to start the season by the middle of October on Saturday's College GameDay show on ESPN, noting that as important in order for the conference to be in the conversation to earn a College Football Playoff berth.

Here's what pisses me off, why didn't Warren have his subcommittee work on this this 2 months ago?

Answer: Back then he was just looking for reasons to cancel the Fall football season (and he was stupid enough to think all the other Power 5 commissioners would just blindly follow his lead); not for a path to play the season......
