Things aren't going so great in Los Angeles for the former Buckeye.
The D'Angelo Russell-Nick Young controversy has stolen the eyes of the sports world this afternoon, after an ESPN report alleged that his Laker teammates shut him out after a video surfaced of Russell filming Young (who is engaged to rapper Iggy Azalea) while asking questions about Young's alleged affairs The video was reportedly shot a couple of months ago.
Russell would sit and eat alone at breakfast, with one incident specifically describing Russell sitting down next to Lakers teammate Lou Williams, and Williams immediately gets up and leaves. A Lakers source told the Los Angeles Times "D'Angelo is sometimes 20 going on 14," said a person familiar with the situation. "They've all been trying to prank each other this season. This was a stupid prank."
Byron Scott told reporters today that he has not talked to, and will not talk to D'Angelo Russell, and expressed his disappointment that it got out, from ESPN's Baxter Holmes. After leaving the morning shoot-around, Russell declined to talk to reporters, saying, "Nope. Nothing to talk about," per the LA Times. Russell and Young are both expected to speak to the media before the Lakers play the Miami Heat tonight, according to Holmes.
"He got me my freshman year at the Orange Bowl. I always told [Sammy Watkins] that I'm gonna get him back when I get older."

Vonn Bell is closer to making this happen. The NFL Draft is inching closer and closer, and Bell is set on getting revenge on Watkins, who regularly torched defensive backs in his time at Clemson, and even now in the NFL. In that game, Watkins had 16 receptions for 227 yards and two touchdowns. The Buffalo Bills subtly reminded him, telling him to be careful what he wishes for on Twitter. Certainly it wasn't all on Bell, but when you're the last line of defense and you have a deep threat such as Watkins, you'll undoubtedly catch blame.
Bell did have one interception in that game, but he will have a whole NFL career to get back at Watkins, and even other receivers who he may not have mentioned. He told NFL.com's Brook Cersosimo that he feels the best safety in the league is Eric Berry, and that's a pretty good guy to look up to. He's not only a great NFL player, he even beat cancer and came back quicker than anybody could have expected. If Bell is able to be anything like Berry, Watkins should be concerned next time they line up.
"There is little experience. There is much potential. Just don't remind Meyer of that."

This is likely going to be the drum that gets beat continuously in the offseason just as the quarterback conundrum was last offseason. Ohio State lost Michael Thomas, Braxton Miller, and Jalin Marshall to the NFL, and while the Buckeyes still have talented players that were waiting in the shadows and are ready to step up, they don't have much experience. They haven't been proven to be formidable receivers at the college level. But Urban Meyer doesn't like hearing about "potential."
According to Lesmerises, Meyer said, "If you're tagged with the term, 'you have a lot of potential,' that's really a bad thing. That means you're not very good, but you should be. And I do see that." The Buckeyes potential top three targets for the 2016 season (Noah Brown, Corey Smith, and Curtis Samuel) are all going to miss spring practice due to injury. While the situation isn't totally ideal, but this receiving group could wind up being better than last year's. The Buckeyes still have Torrance Gibson, Austin Mack, Dontre Wilson, James Clark, and Johnnie Dixon to get into the mix. Somewhere in there has to lie three guys who can carry the load for the Buckeyes. Count on Meyer to find them.
Among the record 561 Buckeyes from 36 sports earning OSU Scholar-Athlete status this year were 26 members of the football team.
The 49th Ohio State University Scholar-Athlete banquet was held Tuesday, where we saw a record 561 Buckeyes earning OSU Scholar-Athlete status. Of those, 26 came from the football team. Two-time Academic All-American and National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Jacoby Boren led the way, as he received the Big Ten Medal of Honor. The Big Ten Medal of Honor is given to one female and one male at each Big Ten institution.
Along with Boren, Bryce Haynes, a five-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and a four-time academic all-Big Ten honoree and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar was up for the Big Ten Medal of Honor as well, but was awarded the Men's Varsity O Scholarship Tuesday evening. Braxton Miller also received recognition, along with Cam Williams and Chase Farris. You can view a complete list of the football scholar-athletes here.
