U.S. gov't to release new dollar coins

By WILL LESTER
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two recent efforts to promote wide usage of a dollar coin proved unsuccessful. But maybe Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea should not take public rejection personally. It's not easy overcoming people's indifference to dollar coins, even those honoring such historic figures.

It didn't work because all of America, started coin collections.

A new president every three months? I wonder how far they will go, will there eventually be a Nixon coin? How about a G.W. Bush coin? The only use I can think of for dollar coins is vending machines... does that mean my sugar rush cost is gonna go up?

Dollar coins will continue to suffer the same fate as $2 bills...everyone will think they're instant collectors items and hoard them. I think I've seen one or two SBA coins in circulation, but I've yet to see a single Sacagawea--anywhere.

The Presidential $1 Coin Program

The United States is honoring our Nation?s presidents by issuing $1 circulating coins featuring their images in the order that they served, beginning with Presidents Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison in 2007. The United States Mint will mint and issue four Presidential $1 Coins per year, and each will have a reverse design featuring a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty. These coins will feature larger, more dramatic artwork, as well as edge-incused inscriptions of the year of minting or issuance, "E Pluribus Unum," "In God We Trust" and the mint mark. Although the size, weight and metal composition of the new Presidential $1 Coin will be identical to that of the Sacagawea Golden Dollar, there are several unique features that make this coin distinctive.

Big George looks awfully suspicious of Adams, and Madison looks like he just got his face beat in.

How many times will they try and fail with dollar coins before they quit. It'll never take because no one likes to carry around change. 2 Dollars are becoming in vogue again for strip clubs or so I hear.

Yep

Carter quarters and Clinton quarters failed miserably, so let's issue Bush Quarters.

Sounds smart to me....

Poll: Americans want to keep dollar bill

By WILL LESTER
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Maybe Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea should not take public rejection personally. It's not easy overcoming people's indifference to dollar coins, even those honoring such historic figures.

An AP-Ipsos poll found that three-fourths of people surveyed oppose replacing the dollar bill, featuring George Washington, with a dollar coin. People are split evenly on the idea of having both a dollar bill and a dollar coin.
