The Ohio State Baseball (Official Thread)

He’s eligible for the 2019 draft, but in the meantime he’ll commit and sign with a college team. That team was going to be Ohio St but he decided to look around. I figured His commitment would stick and that we’d lose him in the draft...kind surprised by his decommiment. Oh well..

Well crap

Bucks added JUCO RHP Joe Gahm via Chattahoochee Valley CC. Looks to be a bullpen guy. Originally from Wisconsin but ended up at Auburn for a season before transferring to CVCC.

By my count That’s 15 pitchers I think now on the roster. Two seniors, two juniors, the rest underclassmen. Just need to find 3 weekend guys outta that group. I think Lonsway and Vance are good bets. Griffin Smith will probably start fall ball as the number 3, but I doubt he’ll end it there. Wouldn’t be surprised if Vance didn’t either. A lot of arm talent coming in and I’m not sure Smith or even Vance will be able to hold them off. Lonsway had a pretty forgettable summer, but I think he’s the safest bet of anyone to be in the weekend rotation.

Tell Beals to call Kevin Cash and he will explain to Beals how to use all of those bullpen guys and some of them will be "openers". A little imagination and you really do not need starters if you are Kevin Cash.

Probably see quite a bit of “Johnny Wholestaff” early in the year until they get some guys stretched out. I’m not sure anyone other than lonsway is physically ready to throw anywhere near 100 pitches yet. As a result, they’ll likely hafta carry a couple more pitchers than they wanted to. Losing Curlis was huge, imo. Having a guy who could go 100 pitches from the jump woulda been nice. Losing him completely changed the outlook for this team...especially early on.

First day of practice today and all eyes on 3B. Dezenzo and Hughes probably the early favs. I’d imagine Erwin and Ernst get a look. Brayden Root and possibly TJ Brock, too, but I’m sure they’ll start on the mound.

I reckon it’ll be Dom in CF with Ruby, Jones, Romans, winard, Clegg all competing for the other two spots. Truthfully, probably only one spot up for grabs. Winard likely will be somewhere in the OF. Ya never know, tho. Excited to see what a tooled up guy like Clegg can do. Jake Ruby has a lot of talent as well...especially in his legs. Malik Jones was probably the biggest position player disappointment last year, but We’ve seen these Juco guys makes big jumps in their second year, so maybe Jones puts it all together in year two.

Going into fall...
Canzone CF
Foppe 2B
Pohl 1B
Dingler C
Cherry DH
Hughes 3B
Winard RF
West SS
Jones LF

Jones, Hughes, Cherry, and Winard will have to battle to keep their spots, imo. Everyone else is set I think.

Not only do we get the S&G World Series, we also get a couple exhibitions this year . Indiana St and Dayton come to Columbus for preseason games. Cool

Maybe the first Cali HS kid since Paul Farinacci and Adam Schneider.

Did some digging and found this on Loncar..

#45 Wyatt Loncar – RHP 2019
Tall, lanky frame with long levers, FB sits 82-85, touched 86 mph with downhill plane, breaking ball sits 68-71 mph with 1-7 action, flashed CH at 75-77 mph with good fade and downward action, creates good leverage in his delivery, raw arm with good upside

2020 from Illinois. Ranked 23rd best prospect in Illinois. Projects as LHP or CF

“Another Future Gamer on the rise following the event was LHP Isaiah Coupet (Homewood-Flossmoor; uncommitted). The 6-foot left-hander turned heads with his quick, live arm and fastball that he ran up to 88 mph. To go along with his live fastball, he features a curveball and changeup that flash swing-and-miss action. Coupet, who climbed more than 20 spots, is one of the state’s top uncommitted left-handed arms.”
