The Ohio State University Marching Band (TBDBITL)

The biggest factor is that the university bumped the budget for the band from $220K to $1M. They've been able to invest in the software to chart these complex shows and get the drill information and music into the musicians hands in a format that allows them to learn more easily. Can't hurt that Dr Woods (72) was replaced with Waters as an interim, who was young enough (36) to take some risks with the shows last year, and very open to input from the band members as to what the band wants to do.
Thanks and my apologies to Dr. Woods for calling him John Wolfe. Do not know where that came from.

Thanks for the article link. The band is definitely in great hands, and is poised to continue the long tradition of excellence thanks to his understanding of how much the band and the associated traditions mean to Ohio State Football. It was also cool to hear about the interactions various coaches had with the band/staff.

If you missed it Kyle Rowland did an excellent Q&A with Waters last June (before anyone had any idea what he was about to do with the halftime shows):

I'm a couple weeks late, but that was a great article. A lot of nice sources embedded in there too. For xmas in 2008 my Aunt arranged a stadium tour of The Horseshoe, including the band facilities. I'd never seen such facilities for a band before. I thought they were even more impressive than the recruiting room. Going up the stairs with all the showcases was just as thrilling as stepping foot on the field.
Highly recommend that tour to anybody whose ever thought about it.
