The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

The prison was fucking ideal. Instead of reading children's books they should have been chopping down trees to make sight lines and using the goddamned logs to reinforce the fence. Not a single fucking thing about these characters makes a lick of fucking sense. It's maddening.

I never got the whole ninja zombie concept either. It seems there have been a few scenes where it's like...

Running through the woods, stop, look all around (complete 360 degrees) ok nothing around, lean on a tree. Surprise! Zombie 5 ft away, coming right at you! He's stealthy walking through the woods, where every step for anyone else makes a noise. Get out of here with that [Mark May].

And how in the hell are these zombies still able to walk? Human beings that spend too much time in hospital beds or incapacitated lose muscle mass and strength and lose the ability to function without difficulty. How in hell are these zombies still lumbering around out there? What in the world are they working with that is keeping them nourished? Are they going to just die? No. But I was of the assumption that at this point, food is scarce for them. But they're still just walking around, no problem. They never just fall apart after so long of journeying for nothing. Tough sons of bitches.

Also, with all of the makeup expertise they've used in this show, why don't any of the characters look malnourished? Nobody has gotten any skinnier from surviving off of random canned food that they find for years now. They all look amazingly healthy. And when are they shaving and getting haircuts to keep looking the exact same, season after season? Carol still has the same short styled hair as she did in season one. Abraham keeps his, mustache/whatever you want to call it, looking just the same. Ridiculous.

Final point...so Eugene lied that he had a way to wipe out the zombies...so fucking what? I don't get the big deal. They had hope and a desire to survive before they even met Eugene. Now it's different? They are sill faced with the same challenges. They weren't going to go to Washington and hit a reset button and restore the world to the way it was. Everyone is dead. The grids are all down. Civilization is fucked. The task still remains the same whether you've just killed them all or not. Build some walls (and I'm talking real walls with brick and mortar and not some weak ass wooden fences or chain link fences), establish a society/new beginning, and start to try and rebuild the world while protecting what you have. Kill zombies as you come across them. The building will take time. If a herd of zombies comes, leave for a bit and come back later. The zombies aren't going to stay there forever. If they did, then it would all be easy to just never go to where the zombies have settled. Except that's not how it works. They'll leave and then the group can go back. It will take time but that's just how it is. It's no different than how long it took to build civilization to the point it is at today. Live with it. Why is that so hard for them to understand? They've wasted years now accomplishing nothing other than losing members as they've been running. Quit acting defeated as if you've just NOW realized how [Mark May]ty things are. Quit being some fucking babies. Nothing has changed.

I get your post (and everyone's complaints) but if the show did not suspend reality, it would be really fucking boring. We've already suspended the first reality, which is that zombies are eating people. I agree that it does not give them a carte blanche to be stupid about everything and it is maddening how far they go sometimes. But the stealth zombies gives the show suspense...it would be pretty boring to me to watch zombies lumber up like snails and predictably get killed in every scenario. And as to the haircuts, I've assumed that people can still use scissors and give haircuts in the apocalypse...I don't think that is too hard to buy. Lots of free time to keep groomed.

I agree on Eugene, nothing has really changed and anyone who actually believed him is stupid. But the brick and mortar approach has already been fleshed out in great detail with Woodbury. Many have tried but humanity rears its ugly head and ruins it. That is extremely believable to me...even in modern society we buck logic and tear down societies on emotions/egos, so I find it particularly accessible in the apocalypse. And as to entertainment value...I never found it fun to watch the characters subsist behind safe walls.

Another episode where absolutely nothing happened until the guy who looked like he had been sucking down darjeeling at Spago showed up in the last 30 seconds. I mean, I get the whole "they are getting to the edge of what they can bear" thing, but do we need an entire hour to outline that individually with every character? Aside from Darryl burning himself and a 10 second catfight between Sasha and Michonne, this episode was a translucent bore. Maggie is now officially annoying as fuck. Whether they are doing that intentionally because they are going to off her soon, or if they think they need to keep the Lori/Andrea female annoying-as-fuck train going, I'm not sure. And the attempted explanation she gave for her sister was, to be kind, dumb as antfuck. Oh, I guess I forgot that after 5 seasons, we get Rick telling us who the real Walking Dead are finally. OK.

I will say any new group...especially one that knew who Rick was, is intriguing. Did they find his wandering friend? (forget his name). Or did they know the Cannibals? Hard to say, but even the Talking Dead Mark pointed out how clean the guy was, so they are trying to play that up in some way.

Morgan. Good point, I kinda forgot he was tracking them. That would make sense with him showing up in a couple teasers.

That's a good point, is Morgan still tracking them, and if so how? You would think he would have gotten back together with the group before the move to the DC area if it was going to happen. How is he going to track them 500 miles on foot? Is Rick still leaving him instructions/notes like in season 1? He certainly didn't leave a note before they evacuated the prison. This writing...
[EDIT] nm, I forgot they planted that map in the church at the end of the 1st half of this season. I guess that's how Morgan will find Rick. Still...how Morgan even found that church given the prison episode and everything it's unlikely he would have ever found his way there.

I watched the latest episode last night with exceptionally low expectations but, despite the lack of them doing much, actually liked it. It might've been one of the more "realistic" episodes. I would imagine that most of the time in such a scenario would be dragging along famished, parched, and dirty. No fire trucks, no safe zones...
