The What I Got for Christmas Thread

What kind of guitar? If the guitar doesn't stay in tune well, then it makes the game more difficult than it really is. Just keep playing, it will get easier the more you play.

It seems to stay in tune fine, at least so far. I played for about 2 hours and didn't have to adjust the strings at all. No idea if that's good or not.

I'm also left handed, and I've heard it's considerably harder to learn if you're a lefty, so that'll be fun.

That is a decent guitar, and it should hold its tuning well. Is is a left handed guitar? Or are you playing a right handed "upside-down" (Low E string, the fat one, on the bottom)?

If you have never played before, it will take some getting used to with fingering, hitting the correct fret, plucking the correct string, etc., but that all works itself out with practice. Don't get discouraged, just keep playing. You will hit that "ah-ha!!" moment and things will start getting much easier.

The most important thing of all - Have Fun!!!

It's a left handed guitar. If I were playing it flipped I think it would be impossible for me to play rocksmith lol.

My problem so far is definitely switching strings. I'm doing ok (I think) with switching frets, but I cannot switch strings without screwing it up and then I'm srewed up the rest of the song.

Just keep at it. There is a section in Rocksmith where you can practice certain sections of the song and slow it down as much as you want so you can get your fingers to the right place and hit the right string. Try that out and slowly increase you speed up to normal. This should help you get your muscle memory set for where your fingers need to be.

There will be some arcade games that come up to help with techniques that can be helpful as well.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your Christmas presents!

Lefty guitar player here too :banger:

Part of me wonders if I should have gotten a lefty guitar. I can move my fingers ridiculously fast on my right hand already, but my left hand is like a turtle compared to my right. I don't know what it is, but even when typing the difference is obvious. I never even considered it until I started noticing that difference between my hands.

So Rita is the quickie, and Lucy is the long, slow screw?

Left Brain vs. Right Brain dominance.

The exercises in this book were designed to enhance drawing skills, of course, but they might also be helpful in learning to control the shift between hemispheres.
