Some pieces to the puzzle....
- Not everyone wanted Herman fired, I didn't - though I did think he needed to take another step up to elite, and he did
- Not everyone wanted Fickell fired... though I admit I wanted to see some kind of change after 2013, and that was resolved with Withers
- There's no comparison here to Herman imo. It wasn't just 1 game, it was an entire season. And he's not only failed as a playcaller, but as a position coach.
- There is some comparison to Fickell, but nobody really knew who was to blame there and it was resolved by letting go of a guy. We know which guy is the problem this time.

- QBs regressed big time, QB coach is... Tim Beck
- As much as the offense is Urban's, he's delegated playcalling the entire time he's been here... playcalling was terrible the entire year... not just 1 game... Tim Beck
- Two standup players who have been nothing but a class act essentially called Beck out after 2 different games... does not bode well for his future here. When he's even lost the locker room, looks like a lame duck coach imo.
- As much as I gave him the benefit of the doubt (and Alex can attest to this), at the end of the day the similarities between what Nebraska fans saw and what we saw this year are very consistent

I'm going to tweak my position a little bit.

I think Beck's future at OSU boils down to what Meyer currently values the most from his staff- stability or ability.

Ash and Herman were great hires. They are gone now.

Does Meyer care more about Beck seemingly creating stability on his staff or going out and finding the next rising star that will be gone in two years.

Moving Warinner to the booth worked well against Michigan. Is it a long term fix or something that Warinner is even interested in continuing?

If so, Beck might be retained- although that opens up a whole new can of worms about his competency as a QB coach.

At Florida there is no doubt Beck would be gone- hell, I don't think he would have been hired in the first place.

Today's Urban Meyer seemingly values balance in his life and coaching stability more than the headache of replacing staff constantly. For that reason I can see Beck being retained.

However, my hope is that Warinner is here long term for stability sake, giving Meyer the flexibility to go out and get young coaches to infuse new dynamic ideas into the offense every two years.

(A similar dynamic is achieved with the stability Fickell provides on defense, IMO.)

In this scenario, I think it boils down to whether they can find Beck a cushy spot to land Withers style.

Warinner wouldn't want to cut his friend loose without a plan, but at the same time I strongly assume he would prefer to get back on the sidelines.

I guess we'll see.

Apparently Meyer talks about the impact his coaching moves have on people's lives in his book, but I haven't read it myself. It seems like it will be a factor for better or worse.

I agree with much you stated, although I would add that I think Beck is the total opposite of a stabilizer and has polarized the locker room from what I can see. It might appear to stabilize the staff, but from a player stand point I would suggest Beck staying would have the opposite effect, as Beck does not seem to be respected from quite a few players.
