Tim Beckman (you're fired!)

I like the young hire here. BG has made stride upon stride over the last few seasons and Beckman in my opinion is a great get at this stage of the game. I wonder what area he will recruit...I would guess he'll start out in Ohio, but we will see.

As usual JT comes through. I love the young, energetic guys he is bringing to the staff [at least on the DEF side of the ball]. Beckman sounds like a solid coach and great recruiter [maybe he takes the place of Tucker in NE Ohio??] His knowledge of the spread offense should help as well, great point I read somewhere else about him facing it every day in practice. I believe I read where he was nominated for assitant coach of the year for 3 straight years.

I also noticed the "related note" at the end of the article with respect to Hazell. They obviously want to keep him, they dont just hand out assistant head coach titles. Great move there. He did wonders for our WRs and SpecialTeams last year.

Honestly, though I don't know anything about Tim Beckman aside from the resume included in this article, I like what little bit I do know. He's the best defensive coordinator from the most pass-happy league in D1A football, is a popular recruiting coordinator who already has a rapport with Ohio high schools, and has worked on the staffs or coached against some of the elite offensive minds in the college game.

An excellent hire!

my soon to be wife is from northwest ohio, and there are a lot of BG folks in that area.

In talking about Beckman to them there have been mixed reviews. of course i must point out that most of these folks know far more about nascar than they do about football. however, the folks that have a good knowledge about football all seemed to think he did a very good job.

I took a look at BG's recent recruiting classes and there is great representation from the midwest states that OSU is trying to crack into more these days. Lots of players from IL., MI., IN. (not to mention a healthy dose of Florida). This guy can only help in this department.

You also have to remember that in NW Ohio... the only people who follow Toledo or BG.. generally live in Toledo or BG...

I lived in NW Ohio my whole life, and no one that I grew up with was a Toledo or BG fan until they went to school there.

On a side note.. the only thing I root for BG are the women.. on my gawd...

Anytime you can a D-coordinator from a fairly good defense to be a position coach, you're doing something right. I think these young guys are starting to take notice of how well Coach Tressel prepares his coaches for advancement up the ranks. We will be lucky if Coach Hazell isn't an OC in a couple years somewhere else, HC in a few.

The irony of this hire:

OSU loses DEF Coord. M. Snyder to Marshall
OSU promotes coaches
Leaves a spot open in coaching staff
Spot filled by Bugs Beckman

What the BUGS ppl cant understand and Ive been reading their message board is why he would take a lower level job. Well half of the boosters have been trying to run him out of Bowling Green for the past 2 years. "Becareful what you wish for". They can't believe he would leave on such short notice.

Whats even more Ironic is theres a possiblity that Bill Wilt who was Marshall's DC could end up in Bowling Green, since Snyder just let him go today.
