You've proven yourself over the years to be a great poster here and a GREAT Buckeye fan, so I won't attack you personally on this one, but I will attack the content.
FUCK Tim Duncan, and his alleged "team first" action. The guy signed a 2 year contract for $40,000,000. I don't know how much the average "Planet" poster makes a year, but I'll say that it will take me about 850 years to make what Duncan will make in the next two years. Am I supposed to respect that? These Pro salaries are so out of control they're like a fucking pinball game. The $$$'s don't even matter, it's all about the number, and they have no concept of what the "number" really is.
Alex Rodriguez signs a contract for 10 years and $252,000,000. That would have been for $25,000,000 a year but the greedy mutherfucker for whatever reason needed the extra $2,000,000 a year. "Joe Buttfuck" on BP needs to work a $50,000.00 a year job for 40 years to make what his "Add-On" number was.
Joe Torre gets on TV and whines about how he was "insulted" by his $5,000,000 contract offer from the Yankees. I'd gladly go down to Public Square in Cleveland and stand naked with my little shriveled dick trying to wave in the wind if I had a $5,000,000 check in my hand.
I understand what you're trying to point out here, but my list could go on-and-on forever. Don't look at Overpaid Professional ahtletes if you're looking to set someone aside as a "swell dude" who's already made $100,000,000 in his career yet trying to be a "team player" in the process.
Mt best example of "Team Player" is Michael Doss, A returning Two-Time Concensus All-American whom was all set to leave us after the 2001 season for $$$ in the 3,000,000 range. This was a kid from nothing, who had nothing, yet passed up the $$$ to return to schooland play for a Championship that NO BUCKEYE fan ever saw coming.

The $$$ all around is out of control, which means you have to keep the big picture in view. Numbers from the 04-05 season: the spurs are worth $350 million. $121 mill in revenue.
Honestly, I have to think Tim Duncan is worth a lot more than $20 million in revenue, season tickets, attracting & keeping talent, etc. Give them Darko Milicic instead and their value freefalls.
On the contrary, I don't think ARod is worth anywhere near his contract.
I'm not much of a baseball guy, but I was under the impression that 5 mill was intended to be a low offer which he'd surely refuse, freeing them from the responsibility of firing him. But the general point stands.

As long as the owners want to pay it to stay competitive, I'm all for the players getting paid.
The owners that don't pay for talent, like the recently deceased "Dollar" Bill Wirtz and the Chicago Blackhawks who weren't competitive for nearly a decade because he refused to pay to get the people needed to keep up with Detroit or Colorado or Dallas.
Is it out of control? Yes. Are these players almost without exclusion over-paid? Undoubtedly. However, until the fans stop filling up football stadiums and ballparks, it's not going to change.

I agree about the overpmts to atheletes but this is more about a fair share of what the size of the pie that is major sports. The owners are going to make as much money as they can. They will make that amount of Gross revenues whether they pay Duncan 2 dollars or 40 mill. So if he can get that much then the money goes to him instead of the owners and that's fine with me.
Duncan never says squat, never hits fans, never spits on his coach or the refs, never is arrested, never has been connected with steroids or drugs.
Duncan scores approx 24 points per game and rakes in around 15 rebounds.
he controls the game he is in and is a hall of famer in waiting.
Now the truth of the matter is that the Spurs had 51 mill available and Duncan told them to use the 11 million for players to build the team.

I don't know who you blame for the huge dollars involved in sports and the prices which keep me from going to all the games I want to.
I get to see the Bucks in the shoe once a year and I could afford to go more but that money is an amount I would be aware of spending and is an amount which keeps a lot of fans from going at all. Whose fault is that?

I don't understand why people always complain about how much athletes make. Who else in this world can do what Tim Duncan does? Who else can do what Peyton Manning does? Alex Rodriguez? Tiger Woods?
No one. And that's why they make the big money.
Doctors, lawyers, teachers and social workers may be more important to society. But they are emminently replaceable. Each year, schools are pumping out these people into our work place, and the service the provide is much more important than an athlete. But no one of them is nearly as unique or entertaining as Tim Duncan. And that's why he's worth the money.
On the flipside, why aren't more people bitching about how much money the owners make? What did Steinbrenner's kids do in their lives to earn more money than A-Rod or Timmy D? Nothing. What talents do they have that are special, unique and entertaining? None. So bitch about them.

Be thankful for what you have, and if you don't like how much money professional athletes make, dont support them. But until then, just enjoy the entertainment.
