Tom Herman (Head Coach FAU Owls)

I'll admit I really thought Herman would get Texas going and boy howdy was i wrong. The first clue should have been when he immediately hired Tim frickin' Beck.

After his rapid success at Houston he seemed like he had a rocket strapped to his ass. But then...

SKULL SESSION: FIVE-STAR QUARTERBACK QUINN EWERS TRENDS TOWARDS OHIO STATE, NEW TRANSFER RULES ARE COMING, AND THE BUCKEYES' FOOD BUDGET IS INSANE

LIFE COMES AT YOU FAST. As of 10 p.m. last night, Tom Herman and Texas held the commitment of the top quarterback and No. 2 overall player in the 2022 class.

And then it switched extremely, extremely quickly. Please note, the following screenshots were taken about 20 minutes apart.

And to think, there was a time (albeit before I knew Ryan Day existed) that I thought Texas Tom would be a fantastic replacement for Urban Meyer. Here we are, years later with Day likely putting the final nail in Herman's coffin at Texas by stealing away the last hope he had of any semblance of promise.

As for when this whole commitment thing is going down, I don't generally concern myself with football teen drama, especially from prospects more than a year out from college, but let's just say the teens now have my attention.

And the hype is about a hell of a lot more than this one measly five-star prospect, if you catch my drift...

Just went over and read the surly's recruiting thread on him from the beginning to the end. It runs the gamut of emotions from chest-thumping texasisback arrogance to the stomach churning nut shot at the end. It's a good read.
I need to find the quote but Herman was praising Gundy for being successful year after year after some initial losing even though coordinators change making the case already in public that Gundy got a lot of time and that he needs more time...

I'm not sure what I'd rather see: they give Herman another year or they can him, Urban says no thanks and they end up with another "hot" G5 coach.

Just sayin: If you don't have a QB, you don't have much of a team. In the Big XII if you don't have a QB you can't compete with Oklahoma.

2016 No. 20 Oklahoma 45-40 Texas Dallas, TX
2017 No. 12 Oklahoma 29-24 Texas Dallas, TX
2018 No. 19 Texas 48-45 No. 7 Oklahoma Dallas, TX
2018* No. 5 Oklahoma 39-27 No. 14 Texas Arlington, TX
2019 No. 6 Oklahoma 34-27 No. 11 Texas Dallas, TX
2020 Oklahoma 53-45 (4OT) No. 22 Texas Dallas, TX
2018 Big 12 Championship Game

In recent years Oklahoma has had a good QB:

2015 Baker Mayfield
2016 Baker Mayfield
2017 Baker Mayfield
2018 Kyler Murray
2019 Jalen Hurts
2020 Spencer Rattler

Texas recruiting classes per 24/7:

2017: #25
2018: #3
2019: #3
2020: #8

Texas has put together some decent recruiting classes the last 3 years so the potential is there, but he better show some improvement. Texas gave Charlie Strong 3 years of mediocrity and fired him. Texas gave Mack Brown 4 years of mediocrity before they fired him, but he did win a National Championship years earlier. Herman was went:

2017: 7-6 (But Strong left the cupboard bare)
2018: 10-4 (New Years Six Bowl)
2019: 8-5
2020: 3-2 (so far)

The loss of Quinn Ewers is big; but shouldn't be devastating. Titty Bar Tom is like Harbaugh (i.e. supposed to be an offensive genius and a QB guru); there are numerous other great HS QBs out there and he should have been developing one. I think Ewers' decommitment reveals a couple bigger questions: Why did a Texas player decommit from the state's flag ship school? Is there something that he knows that the rest of us don't know about the school/coach? Anyway, the clock is ticking for Titty Bar Tom at Texas. I definitely don't think he'll be be there in 2022 unless he wins something (at least the BIG XII Championship) this year or next. Then again he might not be there next year if Texas has somebody else they feel is a "can't miss/must get now" coach in mind. He is signed through 2023 with Texas. I have no idea what his buyout is; however, needless to say, that would be insignificant with the $$$ available to the University of Texas Athletic Department.

What is Brady Hoke doing? He's probably available.
He was part of the Aflac Trivia answer during North Carolina’s game on Saturday. The question was to name the four other FBS coaches who are at their second stint as head coach at the same school, besides Mack Brown at UNC.

The answer:

Brady Hoke, San Diego State (yabba dabba do)
Greg Schiano, Rutgers (the easiest to think of)
Randy Edsall, UConn (Maryland didn’t work out)
Gary Andersen, Utah State (Had a cup of coffee in Madison during a 59-0 game)
