Tony "Benedict" Alford (meh)

RECRUITING PITCH. We love to talk up Larry Johnson and Brian Hartline, but Tony Alford has been a quietly great coach for the Buckeyes for a very long time both in terms of the players he brings in and the on-field results.

With Mark Fletcher committing to Ohio State, he has himself yet another high-profile back, and we get a little insight to how Alford won him over.

Your move, Richard Young.

Alford ran the ball down is ex employer's (Notre Dame's) throat in the 4th quarter, and he occupied the clock, in honor of attendee Jim Tressel.

He deserves this shoutout. He recruited his RBs and coached them up. He is THE's run game coordinator (and I see also THE's assistant head coach for offense).

It might be more accurate to say that he attached the football to a plunger.

He is on the right side of history now.

Coach Alford on the trail

HEY that’s my high school locker buddy he’s with. Will “Butters” McClain - coaching Oline down in Florida now. Our names/lockers were next to each other in High School. Good times.

Awesome he’s with Tony. Moving up the coaching ranks.

Gonna have to see what’s up. Good news is he likes OSU so if there’s talent there we have a good ear.

Tony Alford Assistant Head Coach for Offense / Running Backs Coach
Justin Frye Associate Head Coach for Offense / Offensive Line Coach
and
Larry Johnson Associate Head Coach / Defensive Line Coach

Anybody know the difference between an "associate head coach for offense" and an "assistant head coach for offense"?

Justin Frye is receiving $800,000 and running backs coach Tony Alford is picking up $750,000

and don't say $50K a year....., I mean in actual duties/responsibilities, etc.

Not a roster expert, but seems bad when the Running Back room has 2 people and only one is a player. Maybe Treveyon comes back, but I assume that a decision will be made when his draft grade comes back. If he doesn’t, Alford is going to need to fish the transfer portal with a net.
