11 Best
Best Team: 1979 USC. Even though they didn't win the NC, I've never seen that much talent on a football team in college. Anthony Munoz, Ronnie Lott, Marcus Allen, Heisman Trophy winner Charles White, All-American QB Paul McDonald, etc. Ohio State put up a good fight and played a nearly perfect game, but they were too much.
Best Season: 2002. Everything worked out just right for Buckeye fans, from Florida's upset victory over Georgia (that cleared the way for us to make it to number 2), to the overtime thrillers against Illinois and Cryami, to the "Holy Buckeye" pass, to the great victory over scUM. What a great year.
Best Game: OSU 31, Cryami 24. An instant classic that kept me up almost all night celebrating.
Biggest Upset: See above.
Best Bowl Game: See above.
Best Stadium: Ohio State's Ohio Stadium. 100,000+ fans and you can actually see the field unlike that ugly bowl of crap up north. Second favorite is LSU's Death Valley.
Best Fans: Tie between LSU and Texas.
Best Uniforms: Other than OSU's home unis, my favorite is Notre Lame's home blue.
Best Book: You Win With People, by Woody Hayes. What, you expected objectivity?
Favorite Coach: Duh. See above.
Favorite Player: Archie Griffin. A classy guy who dominated the field when he played in both high school and college, yet never acted superior and spent many hours signing autographs for anyone who wanted one. We could never ask for a better representative of the university.

You can say that again.

We asked the panel to name the 11 best players they ever saw, either live or on television, selecting one player from each of the main position groups, then adding four more wild-card choices from any position.

Doesn't the writer from Atlanta own a TV?????? What a homer!! Living down here in the South y'all understand that us Southerns invented football. Football is actually played in other parts of the country? What a concept! Who would have thunk it? Is Jefferson Davis still President? And when is Bear Bryant going to win another national championship? What a buffoon!!!!

You can say that again.

Yeah, you see I was one of those little rascals who went to a shopping mall where he was appearing in order to get his autograph. And this was before they had those tables where the players sit and everyone is organized and handled by security, etc. He was standing and there was just a big mob of little kids and star-struck 12-year olds like myself tying him up for hours. When I finally made it up to him, he calmly signed the paper and handed it back to me with a smile. He will always be my favorite player.

I've met Mr. Griffin three times, I beleive... I was pretty star struck at 19 or 21 or however old I was... The thing that struck me about him was how he took the time to really talk to everyone he met, at least any time I was around him. (Well, the second time I met him, I was a little sauced, and he made some reference about hoping sure all my schoolwork was done before I "came out to play", which I thought was classy, too...)

Note to LJB - I didn't see your list until mine was done. Spielman and Hugh Green were the 2 toughest guys for me to leave off the list.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
O.J and Bubba might have made my team, but I'm not old enough to remember them in college.

There were several guys that were tough to omit from the list - Singletary and Barry Sanders especially.
