I don't think they will be once the next poll comes out. To be totally honest, unless some of these shots start going down soon and unless some leaders show up on the court, I sometimes wonder if this team is going to miss the tournament altogether. I think, after this performance today, it is entirely within the realm of possibility.

They've now faced 3 ranked teams and have gotten beaten by all 3. This isn't a very good team right now.

I don't think OSU will miss the tournament. But what was looking like a possible #1 seed (remember this team was ranked #4 when they lost at Duke), is now looking like it may be an 8 or 9 seed. The problems seem to be as follows if you ask me:

1. No leader on the court.
2. Lack of discipline (which kind of follows from #1).
3. No proven scorer outside of DT. Once again, OSU only had two guys in double figures, and it took Craft 10 shots from the field and two free throws just to make it to 11.
4. OSU needs Thad to come up with a better game plan. This year a lot of teams are going to key on DT. So in order to score, and hence win some games, Matta's going to have to find creative ways to get DT the ball or creative ways to get other guys the ball in spots where they can't miss. Thad seems to think that jacking threes is the answer and the team will get hotter sooner or later. Well, so far, it hasn't happened. Maybe it's time to realize this isn't a great outside shooting team.

Williams hands

Just curious. Who is the big man coach?

I'm just a fan, but I have noticed several times that when Amir catches a pass or gets a rebound, he brings the ball down to his waist - and then, an opponent, often a guard, will knock the ball out of his hands. It seems to me that he has done this since he's been at OSU. It also seems that it would be a basic concept to keep the ball above his head to prevent this. He hasn't seemed to have picked this up from the coaching in the last year and a half - am I missing something?

Dickerson coaches the big men.

I think it is a natural tendency to bring the ball down and Williams could probably get away with that when he was in high school and I am sure that the coaches have told him to keep the ball high but it is just a natural tendency to bring it down. I am pretty sure he has been told but it probably takes a while to get over something that you have done for years.

Do you see a lack of effort? I really don't.

Craft, Smith Jr., Thompson, Scott....these guys all played their asses off today. They just have huge glaring weaknesses as a team that are extremely difficult to rake leaves over. If you can't shoot, you can't shoot.

I pretty much agree with this completely. IMO our issues aren't effort or leadership. Our issue is that outside of Deshaun, we don't have anyone who can put the ball through the basket, and it's pretty easy to shut down one player. Ross looks lost out there, he's hesitating instead of shooting and turning the ball over any time he puts in on the floor; Craft/Scott/Thompson just can't hit deep shots; and Lenzelle is super streaky and was taking really bad shots yesterday after we got down.

We desperately need to get some shooters out there so that we can drive the lane and have a chance to not be doubled. To me that was our biggest issue yesterday - people don't need to stay home when our wings are on the perimeter, so they double any penetration in the lane and we either kick to someone who can't hit the open shot or we force a bad shot/turnover because we know we can't kick out.

I said I didn't think our awful shooting from Duke/Kansas would continue against worse defensive teams... and I was proven wrong. I still think our defense will keep us in most games and don't really see us in danger of missing the tournament, but I do think we'll continue to struggle mightily to score. The scariest part is, I don't see anyone on the roster who can improve the situation unless Ross puts a lot of stuff together really quickly.
