tOSU -6.5 at Purdue (ov/un 134.5) Tue 9 ESPN

we just don't get many easy buckets against decent teams. We are more athletic when matched up against weaker opposition but it comes down to making shots when the talent is more equal.

In all 3 losses, (w/ exception of 1st half against Duke @ Cameron) teams have limited our easy transition buckets, made OSU play a slower half court game and they have just made shots. Our inside guys don't need to score 25 points but until there is some inside presence to take the pressure off the perimeter guys they are going to continue to struggle, especially on the road in a tough conference this year.

Thomas is taking way too many contested outside jump shots right now. Someone else needs to be able to knock down an open look. Too much standing around on the perimeter and guys inside are not demanding the attention that Sully got last year enabling guys to free themselves up for as many good looks.

They need a confidence boost tonight.

Possible Starting Lineup Change

Looks like Thompson might not be starting:(
In retrospect, coach Thad Matta said, the egg the Ohio State men?s basketball team dropped at Illinois on Saturday has been laid before and will be again. Just as they do in practice every once in a while, teams sometimes come out flat for games, too.

What concerned Matta more than the start of the game, though, was the rest of it.

?We couldn?t snap ourselves out of it in time? to make it a contest, he said yesterday.

He asked the players afterward if he needed to change anything in his approach. And before the Buckeyes practiced yesterday, he told reporters he could change the starting lineup for the game tonight at Purdue.

?I want to attempt to get off to a good start in the game,? Matta said. ?Finding those five guys who have a flow to them is what I?m still looking at.?

Ohio State ? which fell seven spots yesterday, to No. 15, in the Associated Press poll ? had 11 turnovers in the first half at Illinois. It came in averaging 10.7 a game. None of the 11 was committed by the two primary ballhandlers, Aaron Craft and Shannon Scott.

The Buckeyes also helped the Illini, and hurt their own defensive efficiency, by taking quick shots on offense. They averaged 0.73 of a point per possession, their season low by far. They average more than 1.1.

?We?ve got to make defensive players work, just like they make us work,? said Deshaun Thomas, whose 21 field-goal attempts were one short of his career high.

Playing two point guards in tandem appeals to Matta. He did it at Xavier and did it at Ohio State n 2006-07, with Mike Conley Jr. and Jamar Butler.
