tOSU at Navy (M&T Bank Stadium), Aug 30th @ 12pm ET, CBS Sports Network

Like when Bosa scored a "meaningless" TD in the waning moments against Northwestern last year, Vegas was none too thrilled with OSU's 4th Q surge against the Midshipmen.

Further down, it is noted that OSU went from 40-1 to 20-1 odds to win the title following Barrett's performance.

Just out of curiosity, what was it before Braxton's injury?

Not that it matters -- but (un)interesting that Ohio State dropped 3 in AP and 1 in Coaches... probably ranked higher than they would've been if those silly things came out after his injury.
I'm still trying to figure out how a team that's 0-1 and got destroyed 52-28 is even ranked at all though. The irrational nature of journalists.

Well if we're getting real technical here, Schutt was not a starter. Yes, he was an OR on the pregame depth chart, but he did not start the game. Only 11 players on defense can do that, and he wasn't one of them.

/completely useless argument due to players not yet having buckeye leaves to question the color of which they are or are not

I believe I once read that "OR" is used to signify co-starters.

Pardon my gambling stupidity, but that means he did good enough to double the chances of winning a NC? (Since I'm assuming 2-1 is the best you can get)
Yes that's correct. Surprised to see that large of a move after the Navy game. Hopefully it goes down to 10-1 in about 5 days :)

Additionally, are there some really stupid bettors or what?:

Risers

Alabama: From 7-1 to 9-2
Auburn: From 15-1 to 10-1
LSU: From 20-1 to 15-1
Georgia: From 18-1 to 10-1
Ohio State: From 40-1 to 20-1
USC: From 30-1 to 20-1
Notre Dame: From 100-1 to 60-1

People who put money on Bama must have done so in a reaction to seeing FSU may not be dominant this year. And LSU going from 20-1 to 15-1? I would have guessed they'd decrease if anything. Must have been that dominant second half performance that only required 2/3 starting DL to get hurt for Wisconsin and their stud RB to only get 2 carries in the second half AND for them to realize "oh, this QB doesn't know how to throw a football." Other than that, makes complete sense.

Just out of curiosity, what was it before Braxton's injury?

http://www.foxsports.com/ohio/story/ohio-state-buckeyes-title-odds-20-1-082914

Originally a 12-1 favorite to win the title, Ohio State plummeted to 50-1 following the Braxton Miller injury news. Also, the spread in their first game against the Navy Midshipmen slipped from -17.5 to -11.5.

However, since betters have had time to swallow the bitter pill of losing Braxton Miller, some faith has been restored in the Buckeyes this season according to Dave Briggs of The Toledo Blade.

Prior to their opener on Saturday, Ohio State has rebounded to become 20-1 favorites to win the title and is back to within one point of their original spread against the Midshipmen.

The Buckeyes are now a 16.5 point favorite against Navy.

LVH sports book director Jay Kornegay says the swings in lines and odds have left the bookmakers perplexed.

"On our side of the counter, we're scratching our heads," Kornegay told The Blade. "We were having a discussion about it the other day. So, is Barrett just looking really good in practice? Does it look like they're not missing a beat? ... There's no way I would ever have thought going from Miller to Barrett would be worth one point."

Kornegay compared the Buckeyes losing Miller to a similar situation in the NFL when the Rams lost Trent Green prior to the 1999 season. The Rams dropped from 30-1 odds to 500-1, but then a man by the name of Kurt Warner came along and led the Rams to a Super Bowl championship.

My observations after rewatching the game:

1) Way too many missed blocks in the pass protection and I would be less concerned if they dialed up creative blitzes. That did not happen. They would bring 3-4 guys, someone would get beat, and then the guy next to him would not pick up the block and would simply block the air. Really disappointed to see Elflein get beat and then see Boren subsequently also miss the block. The half-ass attempt of a block by Baldwin and then Price misses the double team. This performance against such a bad DL when they were not bringing the blitz is very troubling. But Taylor Decker seemed to kick some ass, so there is that.

2) Perry is a flat out warrior in the goal line set.

3) The DL was incredible considering how much Navy's scheme negates the DL. Diesel, Bennett, and Bosa played awesome. Bosa forced some ill-advised pitches that won't show up on the stat sheet. Washington in particular played very well in my books...by far his best game, wow.

4) I can see the "B" grade for J.T. A lot of those completions were just the little pitch pass on jet sweeps, quick screens, and two passes that were wide open. Other than that, you have an early errant throw missing Dontre across the middle and the costly interception. He managed the game well, but I'm anxious to see how he handles throws that aren't guaranteed completions...well I say that, but Bauserman would've missed them.

5) Granted I did not watch film over and over again...Curtis Samuel is my champion of the game. Explosive in the run but I never caught how many blocks he picked up. Everybody get ready to enjoy this kid for a long time, incredible talent.

6) We got to the point where we needed true power in the redzone and just did not use it. Smith and Dunn need brought in inside the 20...I love Eze, Samuel, and Dontre, but their role is not 3rd and short inside the 20. QUIT running a speed option there...even if JT misread it, it was the wrong call multiple times. I don't care if Carlos is gone, we have the horses to get it done there...quit over-thinking that shit, play smash mouth two downs in a row.

7) I thought we were disciplined on defense initially, but we had multiple guys crashing the same read all game. Granted we will not face the same scheme, we did not play with the discipline I thought we did. Not something to worry about much long-term, but they had me fooled the first time around.

8) Rod Smith might've made a huge block but damn did he miss a lot of big ones.

9) Vonn Bell played sneaky good considering the role he was playing. Plenty of open field tackles...he had to be nearing double digits. On the other hand, Worley misses too many damn tackles at LB. That type of speed may usually work on defense, but we needed to generally go big against Navy.

10) I love how we refused to be predictable with a 3 point lead late in the 3rd. Herman deserves a lot of credit there.

11) Heureman blocked like a champion...we might need him at RT.

12) Rashad Frazier did a hell of a job playing his 1/11 imo...strung out many plays and played within himself.

13) OL gets tougher run blocking as the game goes along and wears down the defense...I'm starting to think that is a Warriner thing.

14) That's all, let's beat the Mark May out of VT.

I must be the only one here who thinks JT's throw to Dontre was right on the money. To me, it looked like Dontre slowed down on his route to make a catch in the hole in the zone. JT threw it where Dontre should have been.

I like how the announcers said "I expect to see a lot of those wide receiver screens"
at 9:38, just before tOSU ran the long pass (which was checked down to Dontre).
