tOSU at Sparty, December 5th, Noon on ABC

Those ABC announcers sucked, there was more commentary about how great A&M is and the various scenarios where Ohio State wouldn't be ranked in the top 4 than about the actual games.
Don't forget Danny O talking about all of the shit that Kiper and friends will be discussing from January until the draft.

There were new players everywhere and those two guys didn't even call the game.

“Defensively, being able to stop the run, we knew we had an athletic quarterback that we knew we needed to contain in the scramble game, we didn't do that,” Tucker said. “We knew we needed to contain him in the designed quarterback runs. We didn't do that. We knew we couldn't give up explosive plays in the run game and the pass game, and we gave those up.

“Obviously, we didn't do a good job on the quarterback run game, which is technique. Maybe we got out-athleted, maybe we were not as athletic on the edge to be able to get it done. ... When a quarterback can run the ball, that kills the defense, and then we gave up some big-play runs.”

Fields wasn't the only Buckeye quarterback who broke free for a huge run, as backup signal-caller C.J. Stroud scored his first career touchdown on a 48-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

“At the end of the game, when they're basically just trying to run the ball out with their backup guy in there, they run the same play that they ran in the first half – basically the same thing, just a read-zone art type deal, and the guy basically hits his head on the goal post and goes untouched. It's just a basic run. Everybody in America runs that play. We run that play in practice all the time.”

POSTGAME PRESSER BULLETS: RYAN DAY, LARRY JOHNSON, JUSTIN FIELDS, HASKELL GARRETT, TREY SERMON ANALYZE OHIO STATE'S 52-12 WIN AT MICHIGAN STATE

LARRY JOHNSON
  • Johnson says he thinks the leaders "continued doing what coach Day has done." Calls it a "great team effort" and touts the preparation by the coaching staff.
  • On the Gatorade bath: "Pretty cold. I'm just glad it wasn't below freezing here. I'd probably be sick." He says the players set him up with Zach Harrison talking to him to take his attention.
  • On Garrett's interception: "Pretty athletic to tip and catch your own pick." He says Garrett is a "great story" since he's "probably lucky he's still here," referring to his gunshot wound a few months ago.
  • Johnson thought the coaching staff "did a great job" getting the players a chance to play.
  • He says he didn't think about being Ohio State's first Black head coach for a game. Says he focused most on the players. "I did not want to go back Sunday and stand in front of that game after losing a game."
  • Johnson says they thought it would be best for Kevin Wilson to call the game. "He's the offensive coordinator. He called the plays." Says he let Wilson "manage the game."
  • He says Tyreke Smith is "getting a chance to play more snaps" and "he's going to make a play" when he gets on the field for 20-25 snaps.
  • In the third quarter, he got a tear in his eye because he was happy for the players and he realized they had a chance to win. "It could be canceled again, but we weren't."
  • On the defense: I think my kids came with a chip on their shoulder."
  • "If you're going to be a head coach for one day, you want Justin Fields with you." Says he always saw Fields with a smile on his face.

Even on BTN people seemed to not (sufficiently) appreciate the fact that Ohio State did all of that without 17 scholarship players including the top 3 OTs, the center, and a safety which is arguably the thinnest position group on the team. Dinardo couldn’t shut up about Indi’s 1 score win over the 0.500 Badgers. Sure, Indi was down their best player, but Ohio State was missing far more talent and a significant portion of the coaching staff besides and beat their opponent by 40. I get that Dinardo used to coach the Hoosiers, but he usually at least tries to appear objective.

Doesn’t matter in the grand scheme; just another example of the best teams being judged by a different standard.
