tOSU Baseball Coaching Search - Greg Beals has been named

He recruits NE Ohio more than Bob Todd.
That's not really saying much since Todd does not know his way to I-71N:(

A friends brother coaches in the sec. He said in the last 6 years or so. He has ran into 1 OSU coach out on the recruiting trail.
That does not surprise me since they are just following the lead dog's instructions in all likelihood. Most of them probably can find their way out of I-270.

Would this guy be a good hire for Ohio State:huh:

Former Tennessee baseball coach Rodney Delmonico has applied for the Ohio State job and spoke briefly with athletic director Gene Smith about it, his agent confirmed.

Smith told Delmonico that he hadn't even formed a search committee to replace longtime coach Bob Todd, who announced May 5 that he planned to retire at the end of the season.

Delmonico, 52, served as coach at Tennessee from 1990 to 2007. He led the Volunteers to College World Series appearances in 1995, 2001 and 2005 but was fired after the team failed to make the NCAA Tournament in 2007. He managed the Netherlands national team in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

The new head baseball coach at OSU will be a big name. You would be shocked at who has shown interest in this position. Money talks and BS walks. They will not be hiring a MAC coach. This is THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY!!! Why have standards any less than the BEST!!

I believe this is going to be an exciting hire for Ohio State. I heard a rumor that they are throwing around some big numbers in order to attract a top level coach.
I've heard that we have reached out to Pat Murphy (G Smith's choice) and Corbin from Vanderbilt (Gee's choice)

Would you want Pat Murphy here? Besides, if the USC job opens up as expected..that may be were Murphy lands. Corbin is much more likely to end up at Tennessee if that job comes open..Raleigh is definitely on the hot seat.

His/ her post sounds like something you might read in regards to football back in 2001...i think we did pretty well by not hiring a 'big name'.

The tOSU brand just doesnt mean a whole lot in the world of college baseball. The job opening here hasnt created much of a buzz..and that's a fact. The Long Beach State job opened up at about the same time as ours, and it created much more of a buzz. People were actually worried that they may lose their head coach to LBSU.

I'm sure we will take a shot at some bigger names, but i just dont see us landing one. I'm not sure we are going to fork out the cash it would take lure currently relevant big name here.

I'd rather have a guy like Scott Stricklin over big name guys like Pat McMahon, Pat Murphy or Rod Delmonico who were all forced out for various reasons.

Things will pick up when the season ends. A few more jobs are expected to come open but i'm not hearing or expecting a big name hire, and quite frankly...we dont need one.

Convince me that we are indeed going to spend 800k or so on a basbeall coach, and i will buy what you are selling.

Rick Rembielek or Brian Shoop. Keep repeating that.

The same Brian Shoop that played at Malone?

i got to know Brian when he was at B'ham Southern. He did a wonderful job there..he hasnt done nearly as well as i expected at UAB.

i remember when B' Southern came up to C'bus to play the Bucks. I like to think that i had a small part in making that happen, but that's not entirely true :)

I have heard Mike Kennedy from Elon University is interested. 4 regionals in the last 5 years and 3 straight as well as 3 SoCon championships the last 5 years. He was also Team USA pitching coach last year. This would be an interesting hire.
