tOSU Linebackers History (Merged)

What's up with this? Sounds like he feels right at home there. Will D'Andrea be moving to the OLB, and how will this affect Freddy P, Jr and next year's all-stud transfers.

Gimme a little input. I live in Palm Beach County- not exactly Buckeye country- although- you may be glad to know that Bob Brudzinsky of Killer "B" fame and also a Buckeye himself- has a chain of Sports Bars down here called "Bru's Room" and the one down the street is a Buckeyes bar slash FSU bar.

Surprisingly the relationship between FSU and OSU fans is mutual admiration (no rivalry, plus we're going up and they're going down).

Bru's a nice guy.

Although there are a couple of folks on Bucknuts that feel that Reynolds was going to move to MLB anyways (which I totally disagree that he was), most feel that the move was solely due to the injuries to D'Andrea and Pagac, and will be temporary.

I just can't see Reynolds permanently taking the middle from D'Andrea and Pagac. My own personal opinion is that D'Andrea starts the middle as long as he's healthy and here. My guess is next year Schlegel backs up D'Andrea and Kerr goes to the outside.

Hey fellas. I have been out of the loop almost all year and just found the site, looks great so far and knowing Clarity it will get even better.

As far as Reynolds at the Mike, from watching tapes of last year he is good, not great, out in space but when he gets a chance to just fill and make a tackle near the LOS he is much better.

As far as D'Andrea and Pagac are concernd I dont have any inside info or anything but just using logic if D'Andrea cant clearly take the job away from Freddy Jr in the spring when both were healthy then there is still something missing from his game. Now with both dinged up I think RR might be an improvement but we will just have to wait and see.

The Hawk, Carpenter, Reynolds line up sounds pretty good to me.

Schlegal won't be backing anyone up. That guy is a tackling machine. The middle is his when he's eligable. Did you guys watch/read about the Spring Game? Get a chance to catch Air Force at all last year? He's a monster. And not because God make him a freak. But because he made himself one.

I'll take someone who's already proven to be an All American in the middle. Let Mike play outside.

Schlegal

Schlegal certainly was impressive the couple times I saw him on TV last year. He will have had a year to have learned our system. He certainly will be part of the mix at MLB, I would think.

Jaxbuck: The coaches said that D'Andrea had the best spring of all linebackers...that's all linebackers. Remember when Pagac was listed as co-starter at MLB with Wilhelm? Did you really believe that? D'Andrea would've started the opener had he not got hurt.

dan_issacs: Yeah, I saw Schlegel play last year. He's very good, but all-conference in the WAC doesn't automatically make him the starter next year, not by a long shot.

Mili, Thanks didnt remember that from the spring. If thats the case and he is too injured to play then moving RR still gets our three best healthy LB's on the field. I am just pumped to see Carpenter and Hawk unleashed full time as sophs. I think MD will catch up/get healthy soon and we will see one of the best LB corps in decades for the next three years.

Thanks for the input thus far. Each of you seem to have a better handle on what's what as far as the LB situation than I. Any info on this front, be sure to fire away.

As far as debate. I've nothing to debate.

Buckeye Linebackers - 2004/05 (official thread)

Behind Schlegel and D'Andrea. Seeing this triggered a couple of thoughts.

I think it will be an enormous waste of talent if this guy doesn't see the field. I'm sure he'll be on special teams, but can we/should we go three deep in our linebacker rotation?

The leading tackler from one of our Big Ten foes cannot crack our two-deep. And that's after an additional year of growth and development. Ok, I know it's Indiana, but I think that alone says a lot about our talent and depth at linebacker.

Some of y'all know more about Kerr than I do. What do you think?

I am not paying much attention to depth charts at this point. With D'Andrea injured since late last season I can't put much credence in a depth chart that lists him ahead of anybody.

Also notice that Hiley isn't even in the three deep. What's up with that?

With all the spots we have open and no practices since last year's seniors graduated what is the basis to put a depth chart together to begin with? I suppose it could be used as a motivational tool to send a message to those who aren't listed in the two deep, but other than that I am surprised OSU even put out such a document.

I may be going out on a limb but I am thinking that Kerr will start a couple games, probably at outside when somebody goes down. He is too good and has too much to prove by riding the pine. This guy is hungry and will craack some skulls!

Lets not forget that we have 2 of them that are the size to play that position that Will Smith played last year in D'Andrea and Carpenter. I can see either of them going down to the end spot on the line in certain formations and bringing in another of the many LBs we have to use. That and all the rotation that will be going on will keep us busy trying to figure out which set of LBs Snyder will have on the field at any point in time.

who's backing up Hawk... I would figure Kerr will back up the WILL position instead of being the #3 man unless some guys get hurt...

What a nice "problem" to have.... we have three great MIKE's, and need to find room for them.... other schools must be drooling over the talent Coach Tressel has put together...
