tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Why waste time on OOS prospects if they (speculatively) show little to no interest in your school? Especially if by wasting time on them you miss opportunities to make in-roads with other players?

It's so early in the 2015 process, it's hard to say if he's not interested. Right now it looks like we have 3 (Gibson, winbush and Nunez) QBs who have real interest in Osu and 1(locksley) up in the air. I don't see us pulling stidham out of Texas, but stranger things have happened, but briles is making moves in Texas and has a great rapport with a lot of the HS coaches down there. It wil be interesting to see what other names emerge throughout the process. Because this time last year very few had heard of Stephen collier, since we were knee deep in the battle for deshaun Watson.

Count me as one who would be very happy, and surprised, if we landed Hilliard. He and Baker would continue a string of riches at LB with in-state kids.

Getting those two are absolutely essential imo...LB is a position of need until we prove otherwise and they are both top 3 players in the state. Add them to EGW and you have the tops in the state locked down. I personally think we are sitting in great position for both, although they will go through the process and things can change.

Not even looking at numbers yet, and keeping in mind there are tons of different kids I would love to have on this list, here is my "way too early--kids I would hope OSU would accept a verbal from today" class I would take right now:

QB: Brandon Wimbush
QB: Torrance Gibson
RB: Mike Weber
WR: Brian Cole
WR: Van Jefferson
TE: Chris Clark
OT: Sterling Jenkins
OT: Drew Richmond
OC: LeShun Daniels, Jr.
OG: Steven Gonzalez
OG: Richie Pettibon
DT: Tim Settle
DT: Adam McLean
DE: Josh Sweat
DE: Jashon Cornell
DE/LB: Ricky DeBerry
LB: Justin Hilliard
LB: Jerome Baker
CB: Minkah Fitzpatrick
CB: Jordan Whitehead
S: Rashad Roundtree
S: Jamal Dean
ATH: Eric Glover-Williams

That's 23 and there might not be that much room but I just thought it might be fun to list the kids OSU has offered and/or kids I think they have a legitimate shot at landing. We all know the actual class will look very differently so this is purely for fun...heck, we don't even know how the 2014 class is going to finish and there's less than a month to go. Part of this is based on kids OSU has remained in constant contact with versus kids OSU only talks to periodically. I would love to put SoSo Jamabo on my list but the fact is OSU isn't in touch very often with him whereas Coombs has been as common as a desk at Cass Tech this past year. Obviously that leaves kids like Shaun Crawford, Malik Jefferson, Lorenzo Nunez, Kaleb Kim, CeCe Jefferson, Jacques Patrick, Chris Warren, Chrstian Kirk, DaMarkus Lodge, Jaason Lewis, Jahvoni Simmons, Garrett Williams, Jeffrey Holland, Mitch Hyatt, Martez Ivey, Kiefer Longson, Terry Beckner, Joshua Alabi, Scott Patchan, Shy Tuttle, Christian Wilkins, etc. off of my list but hey, you can't land them all. Anyone that wouldn't take these 23 right now?

I wonder with the hiring of LJsr if kai locksley becomes a target on the same level at QB as winbush, gibson, and Nunez.

Its also going to be fun seeing what new names emerge from the lists of LJsr and Ash.

New names indeed on the horizon, some may additionally cool on us with our own losses in certain coaching positions. All said I am pleased with the replacements, Urban Meyer did much better in a shorter time frame then the Browns have done. Different beast entirely I know...

I see a number of kids listed on 247 with 100% to Osu, or even another school. Should we even take those seriously since its still weeks away from NSD 2014 class?

There are very few prediction out for the 2015 kids. A 100% rate this early just means there are only 1 or 2 predictions for that player, and they are likely to be predicting the same school since they are based on preliminary information.

With all of the talk of taking 2 QBs in this class, I wonder of we may even take 2 RBs with all of the talent in this class. Between Sosa jamabo, Jacques Patrick, Damien Harris, mike weber, Bryce love, Larry Scott, etc I would believe the staff would be interested in at least 2 of these guys with all of this talent. And with OSU being able to have a full 85 man roster now we may be able to find room for another RB, even with our already crowded backfield, we will lose smith after this season leaving our RB depth with EzE, Dunn, Ball Wilson(I don't know where to put Samuel and Campbell yet), the past has shown that injuries can mount at RB in bunches at times so depth can be a good thing. And if we have to worry about a transfer than so be it, but at least we keep the position stocked. But 2015 has an insane amount of talent at RB, and it seems like a large number of players are genuinely interested in OSU, and taking only 1 could be a regret down the road, IMO.

I see Campbell as a RB. We have the full 85 this cycle but that doesn't necessarily mean a larger class than the last few. As long as we continue to load up the O Line and we have a few true safety's it doesn't matter to me.
