2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Good Lord. I mean. The fact that this is mentioned as possible basically says the staff has indeed hit the ceiling. I'm not sure how you go higher. That's just ridiculous to write an article like that with a straight face.

Right? When I read that earlier today I was thinking that I needed to see if the writer was credible. Then I realized it was Wiltfong. I thought that I had just clicked on another writers piece he tweeted.

It seems like the staff is going all in on the AH DT/LB crew of Chatfield and Silvera and may leave out the in state duo of Hawkins and Oats

Personally, I do not like leaving Hawkins out of this class at all...he is going to be a stud I think and I think Silvera and Hawkins are about equivalent in terms of talent. Oats I was never 100% sold on and whatever the staff decides there, we will see. All that being said, if we can get the package deal of Campbell, Chatfield and Silvera that way, I do understand the appeal. You get Silvera flipped and I really think Campbell will just be a matter of time All are great players in their own right but I specifically really like Campbell. If by some chance we can pull Campbell and Cook in to add to Woodbey, Proctor and Banks, to add to the pull in '17 of Wade, Okudah, Pryor, Sheffield, Riep and Williamson  That would be the most ridiculous amount of talent on paper I have ever seen amassed at one position since I have followed recruiting and that is far from hyperbole.

PS, updated my predictions below with the Chatfield commitment and recent news.

QB: Emory Jones (solid, he is actively recruiting for us and hard)
RB: Brian Snead
RB: Tavion Thomas (I still think Zamir goes to UGA but certainly will not count us out, we are in good shape there...if we get Zamir, Thomas is out)
ATH/Pivot: Jalen Gill
WR: L'Christian Blue Smith (when, not if...talked to my Wayne guy and he said everything was being exaggerated on Smith and OSU's relationship...Blue and his dad simply had some questions but he is all OSU)
WR: Rondale Moore ( took out Jahan Dotson, I think he is going PSU but would love to be wrong...Moore has blistering speed and would be a great fit in the slot for us)
WR: Kamryn Babb (more confident than ever here, love our chances)
OL: Max Wray
OL: Jackson Carman (he is a Buckeye at the end of the day)
OL: Verdis Brown (quiet recruitment but everything points our way, especially with the Kradel commit to Pitt)
OL: Frederick Juice Scruggs (definitely a "TAKE" now imo with the Kradel commit)
OL: Badara Traore (no idea really but we need a 5th OL in this class and a top JUCO would be a great way to round it out...our OL recruiting is pretty mysterious really...would like to see us make a run at Rasheed Walker, William Barnes or Salyer, but we are on the outside looking in on those guys right now it seems...could be we only take the 4 above and consider Jones an OL)
DE: Tyreke Smith (still think he ends up in this class, but now to the exclusion of Hawkins...very well could end up sliding down as a 3-tech)
DE: Brenton Cox (great commit, gives us a dynamo pairing of ends if Parson comes on dow)
DE: Micah Parsons (he comes on down barring a disastrous season, we are far out in front here)
DE/LB: Andrew Chatfield (surprise commit but a welcome addition...could be a LB at the next level)
DT: Taron Vincent
DT: Matthew Jones (vital target in my eyes given his versatility and talent)
DT: Nesta Silvera (taking out Hawkins, looks like we are going a different direction...would love to steal him from Miami...usually we have too many 3-techs and no 1-techs, but this commit basically would give us three 1-techs in Vincent, Silvera and Jones, though Jones might go OL...might also see Smith at 3-tech, so not a concern to me having all the behemoths we can get inside)
LB: Dallas Gant (in the red baby, huge commit)
LB: Michael Harris (if Mitchell picks FSU, I expect us to go after Harris hard...he shot up the rankings more than anyone lately and he is a straight up stud...projected as a Mike, which I would like to see us add)
DB: Jaiden Woodbey (still solid in my eyes)
DB: Josh Proctor
DB: Sevyn Banks
DB: Anthony Cook (we are out in front and it will take a lot to fend off LSU and Texas, but I have him "IN" right now)
DB: Tyson Campbell (adding him in and I like the progress we have made...with the Chatfield commit, we might be the team to beat...Miami is going to be tough here)

- 26 total and I had to take out a LB (I took out Solomon Tuliaupupu, who we might be out in front for after a great spring visit)...Chatfield might project there and it would not shock me to only take one more at the position given the small amount of targets...if Mitchell commits though, we take 3...same goes for if we get Tuliaupupu or manage to flip Gaoteote. Already a spectacular class, just need to address OL and WR mostly, those positions are fairly unclear.

Only changes I have on my projected list:

RB: Zamir White (only a 3 hour driving difference, both sides say he favors OSU. Tony and Urban will give all they have to sway mom) for Tavion Thomas (With the academic stuff going on at Dunbar, I don't think we touch this one)

OL: I have Matthew Jones at OG (Stud is main recruiter and Jones has said the staff likes him at guard). As a result, no Traore.

LB: Too many vibes pulling in different directions for me to even make a pick. With one spot left, I think the staff will go hard after Tuliapupu until signing day if we don't get Mitchell. I also think with how Gant's body has changed (up to 6'3, 230+ now), he could be the MLB (plays inside in HS) and we could go hard after someone who really fits our type of OLB like K'Vaughn Pope.)

Otherwise, our lists are identical. If either of us are right, that would probably put us in the 325-330 pt range on the composite. Not sure what the highest rated class ever is, but this would challenge for it.

Edit: Top class is Florida 2010 with 323.66.

The Cryami message board(canesinsight.com) is starting to have a meltdown, and are freaking out on Da U not offering Chatfield(who committed to the Buckeyes) and possibly losing out on Silvera AND Campbell to OSU.
But they are banking on Da U offering Chatfield now, and flipping him soon after
My favorite poster has been:Rattlercane. He claims to be the cousin of Tyson Campbell, and is going to be the guy who makes sure that Campbell doesn't pick OSU... Ok buddy, gotta love internet dude who claims to "personally" know recruits or be family members... :roll1:

Can't disagree here. I actually put Zamir in and then changed my mind with Thomas. If we land him, it wouldn't shock me...although with somehow pulling in Mitchell, Chatfield, Emory Jones and Cox already, I feel like getting Zamir would cause the second civil war. I'm willing to chance that though haha.

And it does seem like the staff sees Jones as an OL and that would make sense with the way they are recruiting that position. I am more than ok just taking Carman, Wray, Brown and Scruggs if that is the case. Might want to take another DT in that case of it's the right guy...Vincent and Silvera (or Hawkins/other targets) would be great but might want one more although it's not a necessity.
