tOSU Recruiting Discussion

In years past, there were tweets screaming each OSU commit fax rcvd.. today... nuthin
they did that for each one on the previous signing Day in December.

They already queued up those graphics again (the NCAA video game interface), this time with a tweak saying waiting for players to sign on (similar to when gamers are loading into an online multiplayer server)

They will have 0-2 today depending on decisions from the remaining linemen.

Stealing The Bank's point, it's pretty unacceptable how many in state offensive lineman they missed on this year, specially when you factor in the depth chart at the position
I think it's because we waited too late to get involved with them. Had Ryan day taken over earlier in the year I think the priority would have been on the Ohio Players.

We are about to choke off the supply of Ohio Players to other big ten schools again. Other schools do not recruit nationally like Ohio State either so this will really hurt them.

The other B1G schools don't generally get the type of Ohio kid that OSU wants so choking off the supply of Ohio kids to the rest of the B1G means a zero sum loss of national level recruits to OSU for every 3 star Ohio kid you keep from going to another B1G school..

That type of winning is known as a Pyrrhic victory.

Not really... we normally went after the top 5-10 kids and forgot the rest.

I think we are more open now to taking a top 20 ohio kid vs taking shots nationally. At least that's what it seems like so far.

They aren't taking 20 Ohio kids every year unless Day is dumb enough to try and turn Ohio State into a regional power.

Day doesn't strike me as dumb.

I don't want to speak for buklpower, but I don't think that's what he's saying, Jax.

I think he's saying Day will be more open to giving serious consideration to an Ohio kid outside the top 10 in the state to re-establish Ohio, where it seemed like Urban would only offer mostly the top 10 players in Ohio with an occasional offer in a position of need outside the top 10.

I think Day did the right thing this year and the start to the 2020 and 2021 classes. Tressel put the wall up around Ohio and cherry-picked mostly PA, FL, and Texas. Urban went national.

I think Day's happy spot needs to be in the middle. Re-establish the border, dip into southwest Ohio, continue to recruit national, but let it be known that the cream of the crop in Ohio are going to get serious consideration to become Buckeyes and they aren't just going to get plucked away by the B1G and UK each yr without a fight.

Don’t disagree at all. That being said, Day just signed a top 150 player from Hawaii! He also recently received a commitment from a 4* from Washington. Time will tell if those are outliers or we generally see similar results as Urban in terms of distribution. Ridiculous to expect we’ll sustain Urban’s recruiting success nationally but Day seems to have the work ethic and the discipline instilled from Urban. Seems he’s evaluating coaching staff based on recruiting ability also. I think he’ll do well.
