2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

HotMic’s Hunch February Edition

QB: Kyle McCord
RB: Corey Kiner
RB: Brandon Campbell
WR: Jayden Ballard
WR: Marvin Harrison Jr.

WR: Troy Stellato
TE: Sam Hart
OL: Ben Christman
OL: Donovan Jackson

OL: Jager Burton
OL: JC Latham
DL: Jack Sawyer
DL: Monkell Goodwine
DL: JT Tuimoloau
DL: Tywone Malone
DL: Marcus Bradley
DL: Michael Hall Jr.
LB: Reid Carrico

LB: Barrett Carter
DB: Jakailin Johnson
DB: Jordan Hancock
DB: Jamier Johnson
DB: Devonta Smith
DB: Derrick Davis Jr
ATH: Jaylen Johnson
It's too early for me to guess, but here's a list of committed prospects (scarlet bold) plus recruits who have heavy and/or recent CBs (or predictions) in favor of Ohio State:

QB: Kyle McCord
RB: Corey Kiner (recent Ellis CB; recent Bank prediction)
RB: Evan Pryor (recent Ellis CB)
WR: Jayden Ballard
WR: Marvin Harrison Jr.
WR: Troy Stellato (4/4 CBs for Ohio State)
TE: Sam Hart
OL: Ben Christman
OL: Donovan Jackson
OL: Jager Burton (2/2 CBs for Ohio State; recent Wiltforng CB)
OL: JC Latham (5/8 CBs for Ohio State)
DL: Jack Sawyer
DL: JT Tuimoloau (recent Bank CB; recent Wiltfong prediction)
DL: Marcus Bradley (2/2 CBs for Ohio State; recent Dean CB)
DL:
Michael Hall Jr.
LB: Reid Carrico
DB: Jakailin Johnson (5/5 CBs for Ohio State; recent Bank CB)
DB: Jordan Hancock (recent Wiltfong CB)
DB: Devonta Smith (recent Ellis CB)
ATH: Kamar Wilcoxson (recent Dean CB)
ATH: Emeka Egbuka (old Ellis CB; recent Wiltfong prediction)
ATH: Jaylen Johnson

The above 22-man class would have a 247 Composite score of 312.68; an average per recruit of 94.71; with three 5-stars, sixteen 4-stars, and three 3-stars. It would likely be the #1 class in the country.

So the non scarlet bolded seem to be solid guesses to join the class. Are there any in scarlet that we should be on the look out to possibly not end up in the class?

Dear lord thats a stacked class! Tha would fit esentially every hole we would have for that incoming year and provide some very talented depth that could push for early PT(i.e. Pryor, McCord, Christman, Sawyer, Egbuka, Carrico, Tuimoloau)

This class can definitely challenge for #1 depending on numbers.

I think Tuimoloau (4), Latham (52), Johnson (56), Burton (183), Stellato (203), Bradley (220), and Smith (416) are all on the plus side of 50% to end up at Ohio State.

I’d put Egbuka (10), Adeleye (24), Davis Jr. (34), Malone (37), Pryor (87), Kiner (104), Goodwine (105), Brown (119), Hancock (202) and Campbell (245) at no worse than 50%.

I think Grimes (7), Edwards (45), Robinson (82), Carter (100), Leigh (117), Carroll (120), Turrentine (193), and Wilcoxson (267) are all below 50% right now for various reasons.

That’s a lot of highly ranked guys in play.

Great list but all 4 DL guys seem interior type. No edge rushers on this are there?

Who do you think is the most likely of the unlikely?

Who do you think is the most likely of the unlikely?

Hard to say. I think Carter has a chance to be this year’s surprise because his personality really fits Ohio State. I keep including him in my best guess for that reason alone. On the other hand, a highly ranked kid out of Georgia that everyone in the South wants rarely leaves.

None of the insiders I really pay attention to are saying much about any of those guys. I do think Kurelic bought into the Wilcoxson stuff wayyyyy too soon.

Interesting article, as I disagree that OSU is becoming a factor in the Pacific NW, as Day is following the Meyer recruiting method of striking a particular area while the local schools are in flux. Meyer took advantage of this in TN, TX, MD, MO and even FL, but I wouldn't call OSU a power in any of those states, just opportunistic.

I think in this context you may be confusing the words 'factor' AND 'power'. I would say if a team takes a highly recruited player from a particular section of the country then for that year they become a 'factor', as the headline you cited says. Ex...the minute Gee signed his LOI the Buckeyes became a 'factor' in the NW for 2020. Now if they were to get Tuimoloau and Egbuka in 2021 they've become a 'power' .

Imo I wouldnt say that 2 recruiting cycles means that we would be a power. I think that osu wouldve been identifying the players that are elite for that state.
