tOSU @ Sparty, Sat Oct 8, 4:00pm, ABC

I'm with @Zurp, its going to take an actual loss for OSU to move past UGA or Bama. If Bama wins by 3 and OSU wins by 45, the argument will be that Bama played an SEC school. This garbage counterpoint has been used for years(and unfortunately worked). UGA barely beat freaking Kent St, and wasn't punished, but let the same thing happen to OSU, and they're considered frauds

Not only does UGA struggle against Kent freaking State, they came very close to losing to a bad Mizzou team last week. I know they started off with very impressive performances, but that is two in a row now that are about as unimpressive as it gets. End of the day I don't care that much though just because if we win all of our games, we are in and odds are at least one of UGA or Bama will lose one game (imo Bama is the top candidate from what I have watched). As to this game, I think we smoke Sparty's doors off but they are unranked after some bad losses, so it won't likely move the needle on our ranking unless there is a loss above us this week.

I think the important thing to remember is that the AP poll and the coaches poll don't mean anything more than "Zurp's poll of favorite Youtube videos". The AP is a bunch of nerds who insist that they're just reporting the news, even though a lot of times they're reporting the news that they created by ranking Team X at whatever spot they're ranked at. And the coaches' poll - what the fuck do they even have to do with ranking teams? When that was part of the BCS I thought it was the lamest thing ever. Should the NBA teams be allowed to vote for playoff seeding? Sorry, Guardians, I know you won your division, but the White Sox manager voted you 9th best in American League and that was just enough to keep you out of the playoffs. Lame.

Back to Sparty: If Ohio State covers the spread, the story will be, "Meh - everyone said the spread was too low." If Ohio State pummels the spread into the ground, it'll be, "Yeah, well, Michigan State gave up." Meanwhile, if Alabama beats (I don't know who they're playing) by only X points, it's "Alabama won't be denied victory against SEC rival." It'll take a loss for either of those teams to drop.

From what I can tell by all this SEC talk... who cares.

If we win out and get in the playoffs we'll have a shot to shut them up.

History shows higher seeding can help. Can a team come in as the 4th seed and win it all? I'm not sure, but I think it might be possible. But does a #1 seed normally have an advantage by playing the #4 seed instead of the #2 or #3 seed? Absolutely. Multiple times the #1 seed has come into the final fresher than their opponent. The Bucks will have a definite advantage if they can win out and AL and GA both have at least 1 loss.

We aren't getting to number one if we win out provided Alabama/UGA only lose 1. So I've reserved that if we are fortunate enough to win out we are probably playing the Alabam UGA loser in round 1 since they won't want a rematch in the first round.

I don’t think it’s insane at least this year — and based on the past couple weeks (maybe some recency bias here) that UGA drops one of the next several upcoming games. I could see them slipping and falling out entirely while a big 12 and pac 12 get in.

fuck Sparty for the sake of staying on topic

Haha "fuck Sparty" is the new "with all due respect".

I'm excited to see the road uniforms though. I think they're our sharpest uni.

Absolutely possible. The Buckeyes were the #4 seed in 2014 and won it all.
Sorry my sarcasm font wasn't working. My wife and I were in Arlington for that game. And in NOLA the game before. Actually, we made their last 4 games that year. We went to the tsun game saying it was the last game we were going to that year. After the game we decided to go to Indy, again figuring it was the last game we'd go to. Wash, rinse, repeat until they beat the Ducks.

Yep even if it’s a bad Missouri team it’s a “HARD FOUGHT SEC ROAD GAME!!”

If Ohio State struggled with some MAC team “Ohio State survives” would be the tag line on ESPNs scroller all day.

You're being too kind, the ESPN tag line would be more like: Ohio State is Fraudulent or Ohio State would have 5 losses in the SEC
