tOSU v. UT-Chattanooga

The Mocs have one game under their belts, a 113-52 win over Toccoa Falls.

John Shulman is their first year head coach who takes over for Jeff Lebo who left for Auburn.

I think they're favored to finish second or third in the Northern Divison of the Southern Conference behind the East Tennessee State Bucs.

OSU's got a 3-1 lead all time in the series with OSU going 2-1 against the Mocs in the 90's.

6'6 F Alphonso Pugh is the only player on the team voted to the preseason All SoCon Team.

The competition thus far has not been stellar, but I am still pretty impressed with the way this team has been playing. They appear to have a confidence about them that I never saw last year. Let's hope it hangs around into Big 10 play.

I thought it was candy bar at first but after googling, Toccoa Falls College is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), Division II. Sounds like a step below high school DI ball. :slappy:

Two things are worrying me about the BB Bucks right now.

1. As mentioned previously the free throw shooting. There is no way we should not shoot at least 70 percent as a team... no way! If we would have shot 70 in the Creighton game we would be undefeated.

2. Just like the Football Buckeyes this team seems to get a quick jump on a team and then coast with the defense. I would like to see us throttle someone for 40 minutes.

Until these two areas get fixed I see us as a middle of the conference team. I know Matta hasn't been there long enough to get these guys there yet and he is doing a wonderful job so far. We definitely have a shot at the big dance (getting in) this season if we work on those two areas and continue to improve.

I like the way this team sounds. I can't wait to be able to watch them. However, the free throw percentage is troubling to say the least. If you want to win close games, it may be the most important stat. It is, however, something you can work on in practice. Unfortunately, alot of coaches don't want to waste practice time on fundamentals. Bad, Bad, mistake.....

OSU has played 6 games in 19 days under a new coach. They have had a lot to learn and a lot of performance to review and adjust to.

Now they play three games in three weeks. Plenty of time to look at those fundamentals.

Many was it great to be back in St John. Great quote from the opposing coach - who had also coached in the Schott: ".. this is an amazing place. The crowd's right oin top of you, it's hot, it's nasty, it's loud. It's what college basketball is supposed to be about...." "We're very fortunate to have an opportunity to play in an unbelievable setting like this..."

I also gotta say that I loved watching Chattanooga play - at least for the first 10 minutes. If Matta is up tempo, they were UP TEMPO. Constant movement on offense, tons of screens, aggressive, trapping D - they were fun to watch.

finally got to see the bucks in person last night......my thoughts....

1-what a waste of money the schott was....
2-the offensive movement, spacing and crisp passing are beautiful to see....
3-the defense is very active, much more agressive....as is the offense...
4-harris should be sending the matta's flowers every week....lost in ob's scheme, he looks great in matta's...
5-foster never stops on defense.....stockman and jj still "zone out" every now and then on defense that leads to points...

finally....talk about entertaining....wow....fun to see....

I was impressed with them especially the outside shooting display. This was my first chance to see them this year and I was expecting more of a inside presence (didnt need it last nite).

the schott is a cavern. st john is so much better for basketball that there's no reasonable comparison. except for money that is.

but i dont know that we can expect to see them keep shooting that way all year or against better competition.

and stockman still has no control over himself, two charging fouls and quick bad shots

1. Agreed

2. The Buckeyes trailed 5-0 and the entire first half was close - with UTC holding the lead on a few occasions - until JJ made a three as the half ended to give tOSU a 10 point lead. The Bucks jumped on UTC in the 2nd half and was up 20+ until Matta emptied the bench with a couple minutes left.

I'm thrilled with the way the team has played to this point. The guys aren't afraid of being benched if they force a shot or commit a turnover and Matta is letting them do what they do best. OB was a great man and a fine coach, but he didn't let his players play. The perfect example is Ivan Harris. OB tried to make him into something he's not and now we're seeing why he was a McDonalds All-american. Matta lets his talent play and they are soooo much more fun to watch.
