There's nothing about the wildcat that says you need to throw out of it for it to be successful. It's a straight up numbers game. There's supposed to be an added blocker since you are basically eliminating the QB. We used to run it with Boom Herron, with some effectiveness. Darren McFadden never threw out of it. A pop pass or misdirection would be effective out of it, however.

But if you can't block it up properly, or the runner isn't finding the lanes that are being blocked properly, then that's what you are seeing recently.

And the Bucks have three backs - Miller, Barrett and Marshall - who are capable of throwing a pass. Well, Brax isn't ready yet, but he could be. I thought the idea of the Wildcat was to put a running back/wide out in the backfield before the defense could realize and react to the fact that the QB wasn't there. In the case of Brax and JT, it didn't matter. They could be either the RB or the QB.
