I LOVED rubbing that in their faces. They thought they were all big and bad......turns out nebraska just sucked big time.

That was 2002, when they went 9-4 for the season (they beat Nebraska 40-7 at Happy Valley, and also had blowout wins against LA Tech, Northwestern, Virginia, Indiana, and Michigan State). Their four losses that year were:

42-35 to Iowa (conference co-champ)
27-24 at Michigan
13-7 at The Shoe (national champs)
13-9 to Auburn in the Capital One Bowl

Not too bad after going 5-7 and 5-6 the previous two seasons. Everyone had a reason to think they were back after that year...

I was more saying after that game... yeah they weren't bad... my point was that usually, whipping Nebraska that badly historically equates to a better than 4 loss season... that particular time... obviously... it didn't.

I think that was the year that JoePa lost his cool a couple of times, running and screaming at the refs. You could tell how badly he wants one more championship team.

Naahh, they have like 5 incoming HS All-Americans who are all faster than Ted Ginn. What do they have to fear from us?
Six.....and have you seen our recruiting class for next year, the energy that has carried over from all the outstanding verbal commitments for 2006 should be just enough to push us over the top on Sept 10th.

2003 Wisconsin ended up 7-6 and had lost to UNLV. 2004 Northfuckingwestern ended up 6-6 and didn't even go Bowling. Both teams were wholly overmatched on paper as well.

B10 road games at night are something to be concerned over regardless of oponent.
I wouldn't say Wisky in 03 was "Wholly" overmatched. Especially considering the wet and sloppy conditions of that game and their run oriented offense - although it was an 80 yrd catch and run that beat us. Just cause they lost to UNLV? Should we say OSU was wholly overmatched by Michigan last year becuse OSU lost to Northwestern? Of course not.

Likewise, it's difficult to say when OSU played Northwestern in 04 they wholly overmatched anyone.

You'll note, I didn't say it isn't a concern at all - I clearly stated it shouldn't be overlooked - I'm just not the least bit worried about PSU.

Mili - I'd say the 03 game supports your argument, but the 01 game.. not so much.

OSU's 01 team was not "vastly superior" to PSU I'd say this year's club is. You're right though, PSU won't just turn tail, and I was impressed with how they stood up in 03 when, as I conceded above, they were clearly overmatched.

Yes, games are played on grass.... I"ve been wrong before, but PSU just isn't going to get it done against Ohio State. It might end up being close, thats what history supports. Regardless, PSU has NO offense... none... and none that will be remarkably enhanced by Williams or King, and certainly not one that'll move the ball well aganst Ohio State's D. Offensively, if OSU is as explosive as I hope them to be, PSU won't be able to match up. Again, there is no phase of the game where PSU has an advantge, in my estimation, and that doesn't say "nail biter" to me.

Just my opinion, since I haven't seen either team play yet this yaer, I could be way off. Again, I agree that there is history to support your contention, and I don't think OSU can just "show up and win" as if PSU was Rice or La. Lafayette. Regardless, just as they play games on grass, they also don't play games they've already played (in the past, that is)

I thought Paterno was absolutely right on both of those. Penn State got screwed out of victories against Iowa and at Michigan, both pretty tough games that year. They should have entered their bowl game with one loss (a pretty close one to an ultimately 14-0 team) and been ranked probably in the top 5. I thought they were back that year, and they were at least for one year. They were a legit top ten team, in my opinion. They just couldn't replace all their graduation losses, it turned out.

Uh, yeah, we did totally overmatch them on paper...we had 13 seniors and 3 juniors that got drafted into the NFL. The weather conditions just stregnthen the argument that games are played on the field.

Go ahead and keep thinking PSU has no chance, at their place, at night...I'm just glad our staff and team won't have that mindset.
