Not a Buckeye but this fellow did suit up for our Bowlgame opponent last year.

Tragically, his life is cut short in a traffic accident.

Kind of puts into perspective how swiftly the precious gift of life can be taken away.

Grant, 22, died Monday night in the accident in Dallas. Details weren't immediately available.

"This is a terrible loss for everyone associated with Oklahoma State University and the football family," Gundy said in a statement. "Vernon Grant was a terrific young man who had an infectious smile and a positive approach to everything he did. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and teammates."

Grant, a three-year starter, had 67 tackles, two interceptions, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries last season. He led Oklahoma State with nine tackles in the Alamo Bowl.

The next time you happen to watch the Teddy Ginn run clip or the Clock Blocks clip from the Alamo Bowl, I think Vernon is in both (he's definitely the guy, #20, who grabbed Teddy's towel and made him change direction in the run clip, and it appears he was the guy who tripped up Teddy at the end of the clock block run). Keep this in mind when you happen to view these clips in the future...it sure puts things into perspective when you realize that a player you're watching is no longer with us.

Very very very sad. RIP Vernon. Condolences to the Grant Family. it's sad to see a great person at such a young age leave us...this just adds on to a week of very sad news to myself...living in the the cleveland area, there was a huge housefire on the east side of cleveland this past weekend killing 6 young kids and a 34 year old adult--two of those kids my mom, a teacher in cleveland, taught....a very sad situation now to hear Vernon Grant killed on the road, also sad to hear the multiple soldiers that died in car bombs just yesterday in Iraq....these sad stories really make u think and take things into perspective....anyway Rest In Peace Grant...

I started a thread on O-State.com to offer our sympathy. This makes me sick to my stomach and reminds me of how fragile human life is...even an athletes. I'm truly saddened for this young man's family and at the loss of such a promising life.

I left them a link to this thread, so you can all offer support in whatever way you feel it's appropriate.
